: How easy was that?.....
MrDanB Jun 25th, 05, 01:21 PM I've owned my 69 coupe car for 5 years now. I make steady progress on it and am always bolting on performance parts to try and make it a little quicker. The car has a 327 (210 hp) and has never really been that quick. I just rebuilt the engine, and bought new Pro Topline heads, hoping to make it pretty quick. I just couldn't seem to get it dialed in! :( Today, a good friend came over and spent the morning helping me on it. Nothing we did seemed to help. We hop on an old freeway, and then he looks down towards the pedals and says "hey I know what's wrong now"....He reaches down, yanks on the gas pedal, adjusts the threaded rod/linkage for the carb, and then we hop back in and take off. I thought I was gonna load my shorts! :D
We figure that I had about 1/5 - 1/6 the "normal" amount of pedal travel! Life is great now. With all of the mods I've done over the years, I can't believe that the pedal was stuck down so far and that a simple reef on it could make all the difference in the world. I'm really gonna NEED to get that posi installed now! It's good to have friends who can help out
Dano :beers:
JimM Jun 25th, 05, 01:30 PM dats pretty funny, Dano, glad you got 'er going like she should!
novaderrik Jun 25th, 05, 04:19 PM you mean you did all that work, and never bothered to check for WOT ar the carb?
i check that everytime the carb comes off.
live and learn, eh?
DOUG G Jun 26th, 05, 04:43 AM Another set of eyes is always good. You can get too focused on one thing.
Glad you got it figured out.
Guess you need depends (adult diapers) for blasts out on the road. :D
MrDanB Jun 26th, 05, 06:54 AM It's weird going from 'barely beat a Honda' to Holy Crap I got sideways! I bet I would give my brother in his Dodge Demon 340 a run for his money now. :D
Derrick, I read my manual, had my wife press down the pedal fully, so I could adjust all the linkage at WOT, but when the pedal itself is a little bent and sunk in, I had no idea to look for that. Even my "world class" mechanic didn't find it the few times he dyno'd the car.... After we fixed the pedal, the timing was off, so we had to mess with the hei a little to get her dialed in. NOW it runs like I've wanted it to since I've owned it
paulm Jun 26th, 05, 07:28 AM That's great Dan! I could write a book if I listed out all of the simple fixes that eluded me for hours, days or even weeks! :D
zuma Jun 26th, 05, 08:50 PM Congrats Dano!!
smits67 Jun 27th, 05, 07:44 PM That is funny and great at the same time. I bet you love to drive her now!
Not to steal your thunder, but my good buddy drove his college car (some little import) for over a year, before deciding one day to come spend the weekend at my location. When he arrived (three hour drive) we decide to run out to the lake. He was tired and says "you drive". Well, I hit the highway and ran the car to around 60mph and shifted into fifth. His eyes get real big and says "this car is a five speed?!?!?"
Too funny. I still laugh about that to this day.
MrDanB Jun 28th, 05, 06:04 AM Now that IS funny :D
Dano
