I was just playing with my pinion angle and was doing a search here for u-bolt torque. The responses varies so I did a search at Eaton and Landrum. Landrun says max 45 ft lbs for 1/2" grade 5 u-bolts and Eaton says 65... I guess I'll be somewhere in the middle

I'd go around 65 and make sure you retorque them 1000 miles later

This link may help as well, for anyone else wondering. I used 90 ftlbs on my Hotchkis 9/16 U bolts

With polly or rubber pads how do you get a good torque reading?

Dennis, I'm not sure because I didn't use any of the pads that came with the kit.

I have a poly pad between the spring perch and the leaf spring, so I'm only squeezing one pad per side. I did mine to 60 ft lbs. last night without any problem. I can see rubber being an issue, possibly even with 2 poly pads per side.
