one problem with removing leaves is that the clearence between the shock plate and axle perch decreases. you might be able to get away with removing one, but any more might cause the plate and perch to touch, leaving the leaves loose inside, esp. if you have removed the cushions.

another problem is the outer clamps which hold the leaves to keep them from slapping each other are made to fit a certain# of leaves.

The higher/longer the leaf removed, the more it will lower the spring rate. This allows the weight of the car to effect the height more... not exactly the right way to go about it....

that being said, i followed someone else's lead and removed the second arched spring from the bottom. after about a month of sitting, it's lowered slightly. I still need to loosen and retighten all the bushings again now that the height changed, drive it, and do that again. I also need to redesign the clamp to fit 4 leaves.

I might just put them back the way they were and add a 1" block above the leaves. These leaves have been on almost 10yrs and still sit about 1-2" above stock. They also rode stiff, so i might keep it like this... I need to drive it.

I guess it changes that part of it. The rest I still stand by.

I too bought the 5 leaf spring set from Rick's. The springs have the back of my nearly complete 69 sitting up like a moonshiner's car. I am going to have to do something to get the height down some. I am going to take it to a local spring shop and see what they say. I likely will do as Scott said and remove the one spring. Wonder why the manufacturer of these springs put so much arch in the springs? I bet my car is sitting 3-5 inches higher than it should in the rear. I have put new springs on the front too but it seems to be more of a stock height.
Thanks,
Mike

For BIG TIRES, I figure!

No coil-overs are needed to raise her up to get big tires under her.

Measure from the center of the wheel to the lip of the 1/4 panel to see what you guys are getting. I get 17". My springs are from EATON SPRING in Detroit which is a licensed GM restoration spring. I wish it sat a couple inches lower.

strange, you should have been ok on the 68....if it's 67 i would have said get the 3 leaf replacement but since it's a 68 if it's only a couple inches then make sure you tightened the shackle nuts after you let all of the weight down and if you did this then take them off and have them dearched....if it's more than 2" then take out the 3rd leaf and have it dearched an inch or so.....do not take out more than 1 leaf because these springs will break in over a couple month period and if you want to expedite this process then throw a couple sandbags in the trunk....wait...just reread your post and you do have the monoleaf rearend so you should be getting the 3 leaf monoleaf replacement....not the 5 leaf oem replacement.
