My wife has a 2000 Dodge conversion caravan. I know that is a problem, but that's not the one I'm writing about. I never drive it and almost never ride in it. I prefer my chevy's. Anyway about a year ago I noticed that when the fan blower/AC blower runs there was a musty smell coming from the vents and it has been getting worse. This last week I rode in the van and it has become very pungent. Anybody have any idea's on what is causing this smell or have any solutions.

Sure, I would say it is mould/mildew growing in the water pan in the A/C.. Check and see if the water is running out of it by crawling under it and fishing a wire up into the drain tube!!

I had to do it periodically to my wife's old '77 Matador when it would start leaking and dripping on the front carpet..

ac systems in some cars are notorious for getting a musty smell to them. its from the moisture that builds up in them. it could also be something like pdq describes, but i'm not familiar with the way those dodges are set up. check with the dealership and see if its a common issue.
now, pdq, you seriously had a 77 matador? :D ;) j/k

House A/C systems can also have the same smell. I had that smell in several cars I've owned before. When it happened in a large house we were building, I called our A/C contractor and he had his service guy spray this stuff on the coil in the air handler and the smell whent away and its been a year now. I got a bottle of the stuff from him but it didn't have a lable on it. I brought it hame and sprayed it on the coil of my Vintage Air in my car that had that same smell right out of the box and it took care of it. I would try calling your local A/C guy and see if he knowes anything about it. If not e-mail me and I'll see if I can find out the name of the stuff.

68rs406,

Yes, I traded in the '75 Monza 2+2 V-8 4 speed, posi for it after I found out my second son was on the way.

I ordered it new!!!

It was the stately looking '77, AMC Matador, four door sedan with a 258 six, Mopar 904 auto and posi in the back along with factory heavi-duty suspension. Silver on silver, with A/C, P/S, P/B and black vinyl interior along with tinted glass.. Heck, it woulda made a dandy "Pimp-mobile" today!!

We kept it for years and it was a great road car.. Used to load it up with everything for our three babies and off we would go to see Mema and Papa.. He, He!!

I never understood AMC b/c it was as tho they had two design teams!!

The good looking Hornet, Spirit/Eagle, AMX, Javelin and four door Matador VS the Grimlin, Pacer, Marlin and the bug-eyed Matador Coupe!! Go figure???????

Yes, it was a very good family ride and proud to have owned it..

Our Cougar does the same thing if it sits for a week or so. Sure would like to find a fix. Looks like Fords stink in more ways than one!
