: Rear seat belts....again
67 Swedish Convertible Jul 5th, 05, 12:42 PM I know I have asked the question before, but belts have been ordered and I need help.
Can anyone out there post a pic, or show me a link to a pic, where I can see how the rear set belts on a 67 vert was mounted? There is no way I can figure out where they are mounted just by looking under the rear seat.
I bought the Assembly Manual for the 1967 Camaro, but I can not even find it there.
I am sure you guys can help.
Mark C Jul 5th, 05, 04:37 PM That's cause it's in the Fisher Body Service Manual. Belts and such were installed by Fisher, not Chevrolet. thought I had an image scanned, but now I can't find it.
Eric Kammerer Jul 5th, 05, 07:45 PM Okay, here's some ugly ones from under the 69, to show you what you're looking for.
On this photo, you see an oblong stamped, welded on reinforcement with a threaded nut in the center, just to the right of center in the photo (just to the right of the trans tunnel).

In the photo below, you can see the same reinforcement on the driver side.

The above locations are where the center portion of the outer seat belts (female ends) would bolt (and both parts of a third, center position belt if you run one).
I looked through the other photos I have digitally, and I can't find any showing the outer belt (male ends) mounting points. The 69 is obviously still in pieces, so I can shoot what you need and upload tomorrow. I also have Fisher manuals for both 68 and 69, so I can look through those too.
67 Swedish Convertible Jul 6th, 05, 08:21 AM Hi Eric and thanks for the pics. It helped me see where they were attached and it helped me find the correct spot on the inside of the car as well. I would however like to send you a picture of what it looks like on the 67 but can not post any pic here. If you are still interested in helping me further, please PM me with an adress where I can send the pics.
Very best regards
Dynawolf Jul 6th, 05, 10:32 AM I have a 67 Firebird convertible. I installed rear seatbelts for the kids. When I pulled the seat the attaching bolts were present. Just unbolted them and attached the belt mounting plate. Not sure if that was a "Firebird" only thing since the cars are so similar. (That's why I come to this site)
67 Swedish Convertible Jul 6th, 05, 10:50 AM Hi Dynawolf,
Well, see, the strange thing is that my car was fitted with (A39) Belts All Deluxe stated on the cowl tag.
However, looking in the back of my car, I can't see any attachment points apart from the brackets holding the lower part of the rear back rest.
Looking at the pics above, showing the "brackets" from the under side, or the outside, I can only say "Yes, that's how it looks".
However, after taking out the backrest and the back seat, there are still only 2 brackets present, and that is the lower attachments points for the back rest. Now - I would love to post a pic showing what it looks like, but I can not do that on this site.
I have read that some parts stated on the cowl tag was not actually installed, or mounted. On the other hand, some of the Camaros where equipped with things that was not stated on the cowl tag. I guess you can refer to that as human error on the day of manufacturing.
So my question has changed from "Where do I attach the belts" to "Is my car a Camaro that had options listed but not actually installed"?
DROPTOPtimes2 Jul 6th, 05, 02:04 PM can't you just add the pics to your photobucket album?
BPOS Jul 6th, 05, 02:55 PM Swedish-
Upload the pics to Photobucket, then "copy" the line under the Pic that says IMG and paste it into your post. The picture will then appear on the post, like this:

67 Swedish Convertible Jul 6th, 05, 02:58 PM Hi camarorsconv,
They are already in there. Just not sure if people will go through the hazzle of finding them there.
Check out a pic called "seat belt bracket 3". It shows the only bracket available on the left hand side, behind the drivers seat.
I was, in a previous thread, told that these brackets should not be used for seat belts, and that the brackets to use could be found sone 2'' above them.
67 Swedish Convertible Jul 6th, 05, 03:00 PM Looks like BPOS beat me to the answer....
Yes - below is the pic showing the only available bracket.

Mark C Jul 6th, 05, 04:27 PM That's not the seatbelt bracket. Thats the bracket that the legs for the back half of the rear seat fit into. Then you thread a small 5/16" (?) bolt with an integral fender washer attached into the hole to hold the seat inplace. The seatbelt holes (they aren't brackets just threaded bolt holes) are further inboard, you can just make out one of them to the left of that bracket partially filled with whatever you painted the floor with. The other on that side would be in that panel that looks like it was replaced.
Eric Kammerer Jul 6th, 05, 11:00 PM I was trying to get my photos uploaded, but on dialup it is a no go.
Mark is exactly right. The threaded reinforcement that is roughly centered between the seat back bracket and that flat bar to the left is the inboard hole, gooped shut with your paint/coating. You should have one in the same location on the passenger side.
The outboard location is under that welded on patch panel on the "ramp" to the right. The reason you cannot see the outboard locations from underneath is because they are over the rear frame rails (hence the "ramp" in the floor at this location. I did not take a tape measure to mine yet, but eyeballing my photos, the hole is within an inch of the top of the ramp; I think I can see the top half of the hole at the top of your patch, just to the left of the second weld at the top.
Eric Kammerer Jul 6th, 05, 11:13 PM Oh, and you'd be best to get actual seat belt bolts for those holes. Rick's carries them as part RC-523. They have a short area at the tip without threads, so they go in easier, and they are properly hardened and rated for seat belt use. I can't remember the grade they are, and the ones I have are not marked. I'd think the are at least Grade 5, but maybe someone here knows or you can do a search for seat belt bolts on here. They also have sealant on them to keep water splashed up undet the car from getting in the interior.
67 Swedish Convertible Jul 7th, 05, 03:47 AM Guys,
You are fantastic. Thanks heaps for all that info. I actually thought I was going crazy. I crawled under the car and saw the brackets as they were shown on the pics above. Went inside, took out everything and saw...nothing.
Well well, again, I will have to add another piece of sheet metal to the shopping list for the car - that'll keep me busy come this winter.
Buying sections of the floor at e.g NPD - Do they come with holes and everything else for seat belt brackets, or is that something I will have to figure out myself?
Don't ask me what that grey stuff is that some owner before me painted on the floor. Feels like a rubber compound of some sort and peels of real easy.
Also not sure yet what the floor looks like under the patches and under the grey compound, but pics will be posted later this year to show the progress.
Thanks again for all info.
Eric Kammerer Jul 7th, 05, 06:04 AM Once I realized you were looking for raised brackets and then saw your picture, I can understand how you missed them. If that is the top of the hole visible under the patch, you should be able to just nip that patch a little to be able to get a bolt in there.
Far as I know, the full floors have the nuts on them.
67 Swedish Convertible Jul 7th, 05, 10:00 AM Hi Eric,
Yes - I can get a bolt in there and fasten it aswell. That part of the belt is cleared. The biggest problem I have now is to make some kind of bracket on the patch that someone put in there in order to fasten the left hand part of the belt. Maybe I'll just do a simplified solution and drive a bolt straight through, since the floor will have to be fixed up anyway..
