View Full Version : What's a decent price for a good front subframe?
WildBillyT Jul 6th, 05, 07:47 PM My existing 1969 front subframe needs a decent amount of repairs (3 body mounts and one bent frame horn) and I am thinking about ditching it for one in better condition. Does anyone know the going rate for a front subframe (bare)?
gene_sc Jul 6th, 05, 07:58 PM the thing to do is look for a 68-72 nova someone is parting out, usually I look for a 4 door as no one wants them.... take the parts I want sell what left over, then off to the bone yard, with the hulk.
Tom M Jul 7th, 05, 06:08 AM WoldBillyT, I have a '74 Nova subframe in my 67 RS which I paid $150.00. You can use 68 - 74 Nova subframes. This middle frames body mount brackets needed to be reinforce due to rust. I spent very little money but quite a bit of time to get these welded in the correct place. The rest of the frame was sold. As you will see from other posting of this subject, the Nova motor mount brackets should be removed and you should use the Camaro frame mounts (the holes are still in the frame for Camaros).
I hope this helps,
Tom
KevinW Jul 7th, 05, 08:16 AM Bill, when do you need it? I happen to have recently bought one for a spare and it would be reasonable to you. I just need to check my original and the spare for straightness.
Needs some work, but less than the one you describe. I can bring it up to you when I pick up the PG. Been meaning to check in with you, how are the weekends for you in July? 16th is out, but the other weekends are possible.
WildBillyT Jul 7th, 05, 09:09 AM Gene and Tom,
Thanks for the info, I hadn't thought of using a Nova subframe. Good to know!
Kevin,
You have a PM.
edd Gordon Jul 7th, 05, 10:37 AM When I needed a frame for my 68 last winter I searched everywhere and found prices from $150.00 to $525.00 but the problem was the cost of shipping and you really can't tell how good a frame is by a picture. I was lucky and someone who saw that I was looking for a frame on this Clubs classified contacted me that his brother in law had one from a 68 Firebird in Florida about 125 miles from where I live and the guy brought it to my house because he was coming out this way Well long story short I got it for $125.00 delivered and it needed some welding around the mount supports and clean and painted and is now in my car enjoying it's new home.
Joe Harrison Jul 7th, 05, 11:30 AM second gen Camaro? you can go to front steer. I have often wondered if one could be made to work. They should be adime a dozen and you get the bigger brakes and stuff with it. Just don't know what it takes to put one in. I belive they will bolt up to the body but don't know about the core support.

Barefoot Dave Jul 8th, 05, 05:41 AM Does anyone know the going rate for a front subframe (bare)?
If this helps......At spring Carlisle and again at GM Carlisle there were several vendors with a stack of subframes that had been blasted, primed and some were painted and the asking price was $450. I did notice that the pile seemed to be the same size on Sunday as it was on Thurs/Fri. I recently paid $150 for one in southeast PA.
MY396 Jul 8th, 05, 06:21 PM My advice is to get good pictures and measurements. I advertised for one here and a "business" contacted me and sold me a excellant rust free frame. He was right it is rust free, but he didn't tell me it was bent badly. Long story short he had me return it and he refused shipment, can you believe that, another $75.00 out of my pocket. This guy is in the restoration business, anyone around Poydrous La. can contact me and I'll be glad to fill in with the details. Don't deal with him please he got me really good.
rich pern Jul 8th, 05, 10:22 PM Poydrus in Louisiana, or near Los Angeles? I Live to fairly near to Poydras Louisiana?
