Does anyone know how to remove the glove box lock? I recently bought a 1968 Camaro with a locked glove box...unfortunately, none of the keys that came with the car work. :clonk:
I read a 1/4" drill bit works well but am wondering what my options are (aside from calling a locksmith). If using a drill, will any drill bit do?

can you maybe get behind it and take the screws out that hold the latch in place and open it that way- maybe then you can get it apart without destroying anything.

Not sure what condition the car is in, however if you want to 'sacrifice' the cardboard glove box itself, ...you could cut the cardboard under the dash and unhook the latch that way.

I agree with Kevin. The glovebox is just cardboard, and very inexpensive to get repro. Of course, going underneath and through the cardboard risks releasing the biowarfare agent, guns, or money that is locked inside that glove box.
One other thing to look at is unscrewing the bottom of the glove box. I don't have my 68 anymore, and I can't remember if the screws that hold the glove box door hinge are accessible from the bottom of the dash. Anybody know if the heads for the hinge screws are at the bottom edge of the dash?

try working your hand to the top of the glove box and releasing the glove box latch from the top. I start from the passenger side, go up the right side over the top and release the level to open the door.

Thanks...turns out all I needed was a plastic knife to squeeze through the top and release the lever :D

Fortunately, there was only an empty paper cup in there...I thought for sure it was going to be something more exciting like a severed hand or something. :D

A protectoplate would be a MUCH BETTER find than a hand!!
