Its a hot Monday night, drove around downtown in slow, traffic. Used the clutch alot! Felt it start to get stiff, almost like a grinding when I pressed on the clutch pedal. Well obviously something was going on. Because, eventually when I pushed it, the clutch pedal made a snap sound. I was still able to limp home thankfully. It still goes into gear, and the clutch does engage. The problem is the clutch pedal does not return back to it normal height. I don't have a jack to raise the car high enough to get under to see and I'm hoping to get some idea from you guys prior to taking it to a mechanic. The car is a 67 rssss vert. Thanks for any thoughts in advance

Check the clutch linkage (do the easy stuff first), but my guess is you may have broken one or more of the fingers on the pressure plate. Does the clutch seem to engage and disengage OK now-- just not returning to the right height? Other option might be the throwout bearing was mounted wrong and you may have broken the spring on the fork -- in any case if your linkage is OK, looks like you'll need to pull the Transmission and take a look.

If you haven't pulled your transmission before & it's a 4-speed, you'll have to unbolt the support cross-piece from the frame to get clearance to drop it out. I struggled for a couple of days before someone told me that peice of advice!! Post what you find from looking at the linkage.

I don't think it will help much to "look" without removing the transmission and bell housing, but you can always back over a curb and leave your front wheels up on the curb, so you can crawl under it to look.
