Dennis the 61 won't be ready for HAN. My new goal is for the Sacramento Autorama (Feb). I have to have a goal to keep me plugging along. Are you doing HAN this year?

I will post pictures of the new vessel as soon as I get some paint on it. I have to pull off a paint job between now and HAN. The excitement never ends, LOL.

HAN wise - I do hope to see a couple TCer's up there
A lunch or dinner like 'Camaroman' (we're gonna have to change that maybe :p ) says would be nice!
There are "Show & Shines" scheduled at the Peppermill, Hilton and Atlantis on both the 4th and 5th so if someone has a car entered in any of those and can't leave maybe we could meet there?

I gonna be in the mountains that week (Donner) and planning to get over to Reno sometime between the 3rd~5th.

I'm 1396 on the waiting list. Darn....shouldn't have given up my spot from 2001 while my car was being restored. I'm still going. Staying at the Silver Legacy Wed 8/3 to Sat 8/6

The Banner would be available. Post under the TC Banner sticky under Bench Racing and Trenton Z/28 should be able to send it to you (as long as you agree to send it to the next guy who wants it).

Well I guess we should figure out a place to meet. Something low key (a concert would not be the best place). I usually hang out at the cruise in Sparks on Friday and Saturday evening/night. After the cruise I am usually over at A&W, there are lots of cars over there, more of the hot rodders/drag racer crowd.

During the day on Saturday I usually hit the swap meet in the morning and then head over to the auction after lunch.

Looks like everyone will be around on Thursday and Friday. Maybe we should pick a day and time? How about lunch on Friday? There are quite a few decent places to eat on the south end of Virginia (Mimis's Cafe, Red Robin, Claim Jumpers, Chilis, Macaroni Grill) those are all I can think of off hand. My vote would be for lunch at Red Robin. Clean simple and easy.

Friday 1PM Red Robin.

I am open to suggestions, I just thought I would try to get the ball rolling.

If we figure out what we want to do early enough, I will try to see if I can reserve something. I will need to know how many guys plan on coming and we need to decide on a place.

Royce - that sounds good to me
Hopefully others will chime-in.

I plan to wander over that way from Donner Lake 1 or 2 days just to walk around and look.

John Doyle - I'm not taking a car or my 'E-Z Up' with me this trip.
Maybe 'Clill' or ??? would have a stationary location that would allow it to be hung and watched - hopefully some one that does will chime in.
If not - thank you very much anyway for the offer and making it available to us.

Looking forward to meeting all of you;
John M.

Royce,
Red Robin sounds like fun. I can talk to some of the guys I'll be hangin with and see what they think. Cell phones will definately come in handy ;) It doesn't really matter where we meet as long as it's in Reno and when the majority of the folks can meet up. Friday @ 1:00 works for me...

On a side note...I remember going to the nugget casino ~ 10 years ago, and they had this burger called "the awful awful". It was the best burger I ever had. I'll have to see if they are still serving that monster :D

Thanks 'clill' - it was just a thought.

I 'googled' the Red Robin location - http://www.google.com/local?q=red+robin&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&near=Reno,+NV&latlng=39529722,-119812778,6932344054833682193&radius=0.000000&dm=large
Hopefully the link is right.

Please let me know if there is a meeting change, I have a terrible 'dial-up' at the cabin so 'surfing with the Team' gets to be a pain...

John, That looks right.

So far it looks like there will be three of us. If anyone else plans on stopping by speak up, so we will have an idea. It's nothing formal just hang out and have a bite to eat.

Maybe only 3 from here, but there will be about a 1/2 dozen or more folks from the Seattle area going down this year (I think they all have 1st gen's, although some may bring other toys...) I was looking at the venues, and I would love to see Tower of Power! They're a super good funk band!
One more week! Can't wait...

Thanks C.L. That's nice of you! In the past, they all caravanned down in 1 group. This year, 4-5 couples will be going down I-5, a few through the redwoods, a few more are taking the coastal cruise route...I can't get my wife to go from Seattle to Portland, let alone down to Reno, so we're flying down... I can't wait to see "El Mule" in person ;) Clill, are you anywhere near "Stevo" ? I know he's somewhere in north central Cali...See ya all in a week or so :waving:

Not to step in where I don't belong, but Stevo is up in Dunsmuir (near the Calif/Oregon border) north of Redding. Clill is in Woodland which is about 100-110 miles south of Redding. Both are on I-5. I hope that helps.

Did you sell the camaro?

I may be going up, mabey for the day. Todd id trying to get me to film another pass seat blast in his 68 at the track in Fernley. That would lead to an overnighter. We'll see.

Phil,
Yes, I sold the Camaro about 8 months ago. I got to the point I had to much engine and not enough car. Rather than re-do the Camaro I chose to go a different route. I still have the blown small block and th400. I am building a 1961 Skylark for it to go in. I just have a lot of work left. If you come up to Reno look us up on Friday, everyone is welcome.

Dano, don't get to excited about the temperary ride. I have been wheeling and dealing and I don't know what I might show up in. I am pretty sure what ever it is, it won't be all that nice. Worse case we drive up in my truck, either way I will be there.

I just read that Reno will stay in the 90's into next week and possibly get even hotter for our trip! Time to break out the spf 80  What has the temp. been in the past during HAN? Do many cars overheat down there? (I would think so in that kind of heat!)

Dano

DjD
Jul 25th, 05, 03:18 PM
The 2 times I've been the temps have been in the mid 90's but that's kinda normal. Not a lot of overheating as unless someone is coming from the coast or the northwest everyone is use to it. Why do you think it's called Hot Aug Nights? Oh, usually the week starts out with a bit of rain but the event is a bit early in the month this year, I don't think any moisture is expected.

camaroman7d
Jul 25th, 05, 05:09 PM
Yes, mid 90's is the norm. Most cruising is done at night so not a lot of overheating. There are always a few cars spilling water, but nothing to wild. The "official" Sunday morning cruise has been known to overheat quite a few cars. If your cooling system and timing are up to par a car should be able to handle it no problem. Last year on my way home the temp was over 100* and I didn't have any overheating (even with the blown engine, which are known for creating excess heat in an engine). As Dennis said it is not unusual to have a brief shower (nothing major), the last two years there was no rain. 3 years ago there was a very minor shower (not even enough to wet the ground). I have been the last 6 or so years in a row and only remember a couple minor showers. Early in the week one year they got rained on pretty good (that was before I showed up on Thursday though). If you burn easy you might want to bring a hat or two. Not a lot of shade out in the desert, lol. The swap meet can be pretty darn hot, there is ZERO shade and the asphault gets warm. This is why I like to hit the swap early morning.

MrDanB
Jul 25th, 05, 07:34 PM
Hey Dennis, cut me some slack...I'm from Seattle where 67 degrees is a belly burner :D NO RAIN? What's that like? How interesting  Guess I can leave the bumbershoot (umbrella) at home ;)

Here's the 10 day forcast for Reno, http://www.weather.com/activities/other/other/weather/tenday.html?locid=USNV0076&from=search_10day
Do cars overheat? Picture this. Old cars, hot temps and cruise speeds of under 5 MPH. The smell of coolant will be in the air. The last year I was entered, my car didn't overheat, but my left foot was paralyzed from riding my clutch during the sub 5 MPH cruises.

Jul 26th, 05, 01:21 AM
Regarding the cruising. Does anyone actually cruise Reno anymore? This will be my 8th year going and downtown Reno always seems more like a daytime affair atleast for the past 6-7 years or so. At night it is a bit on the wild side and not from true HAN cruisers. This is why my wife and I stay in the Sparks area for most of the action.

Downtown Sparks and places like the Hilton hotel (where we usually stay) seem the place to be. To be honest, I have never made to the Aladdin or Peppermill. How is the activity at those two locations? We are looking to venture out a bit more this year than in the past few years.

Larry

camaroman7d
Jul 26th, 05, 09:00 AM
Larry,
Downtown usually gets pretty rowdy at night (after 10PM). I uaually cruise downtown early make one or two passes and then I head down to Sparks. The Hilton is in Reno, The Nugget is in Sparks, both are nice places to hang out. The Sparks cruise is WAY nicer in my opinion, no problems or knuckleheads. The Atlantis and Peppermill are very nice shows as well. The only "problem" area is right downtown after 10 or so. You can feel it in the air there that it will only take a small spark and something bad can/will happen. The cops have been really trying to crack down. After 10 you have to be moving or in a Casino, no standing around, etc... The problem is the cops all take off after about 11:00-11:30 and then all the knuckleheads take over the streets. The good thing is it's easy to avoid, just stay away from downtown (Circus-Circus, Silver Legacy, Eldorado, etc.. that area of Virginia St.) The south end of Virginia is fine.

Dayton68Z28
Jul 26th, 05, 02:25 PM
I agree with Royce above. Downdown Reno (Virginia St) after dark is scarry. There is a big police presence.....but also....a big gangbanger presence. After the cruise ends....get indoors quick! Most all the action is during the day. Lots of Show & Shines all over town. I personally like to go to the Convention Ctr (next door to the Altantis) for the car auctions. Huge air conditioned bldgs. You can view acres of car before they cross the auction floor. Lots of real & fake Z28 & BB Camaros.
Also, check out the swap meet/car corral @ the Reno Livestock Ctr.
The drags/burnouts in Fernley

LarryC5
Jul 27th, 05, 10:33 PM
I agree on downtown Reno being scary after dark. The very fisrt year I went to HAN was in 97'. I witnessed two people throwing glass bottles at a motorcyclist sitting at a light in front of one of the casinos.

The second year I went had the riot, I missed it by a few hours. Third year, cops were absolutely everywhere. After that, I never allocated anymore time for that area during HAN except for the daytime activities.

Side note, does anyone know if Summit Racing will have the clearence tent up? Last year they did not put it up. I recall, the deals were pretty good if you could pick through the crowd and subsequent mess to find what you needed.

camaroman7d
Jul 27th, 05, 10:49 PM
Summit e-mailed me the other day. I don't remember any mention of a clearance tent. They are running the usual HAN "sales" free shipping, buy it in the store and they will ship it so you don't have to pack it around. Not really anything special about that they do that year round, I was up there a couple mnths ago and bought a bunch of stuff and they offered to ship it.

Yes, people still cruise downtown. There is still a big crowd down there. I just get in and get out before people have time to get drunk and act silly. I don't blame people that just avoid it all together. Like Larry said it is not the HAN participants or even car enthusiast that cause the problems. The last couple of years haven't been all that bad. I still choose to stay away after 10PM, too many other places to enjoy.

You can bet the police presence will be heavy. HAN brings a LOT of $$$ to the city. The last thing they want to do is have it ruined. For the most part it is a great time (which is why the waiting list is so long). There are a lot of people that still think downtoan is all there is to HAN. I hope the knuckleheads don't figure it out.

Went to our monthly Camaro club meeting tonight...Many couples are heading out tomorrow morning, and a few have left already. I brought up the plan to meet up with TCer's on Thursday or Friday. Everyone agreed. About 8 couples are staying at Harrah's and another 3-4 are at other hotels. I'm ready to "hit the strip" and check out the swarm of hot cars! Camaro on!

Friday at 1:00 Red Robin for lunch and BS. Dano you are in for a treat. I hope your wife has a bib for you to wear you are going to be slobbering over all the cars. Whatever you do don't limit your eyes to just Camaros. There will be as many if not more tri 5 Chevys and just about every other make and model you can think of. Every year there is an unusual car or two. Last year there was a blown big block stuffed in a Nash Metropolitan. The two big fat tires in the back were just about rubbing each other. Make sure you see the auction and the swap meet as well. See you Friday, even though I still have no idea of what I will be driving up there, LOL.

Maximum, good to hear you will be joining us. I think I missed you last year, at Summit Racing.

Dan,
Your friends have it down, you are in good hands and will have fun. The auction is the Silver State (or somthing like that) auction. It's doen on the south end of Virginia. I usually try to get to it Friday and Saturday, it's a good place to hide from the heat for a while (big air conditioned building). Nice cars to look at, most are out of my price range (or more than I would be willing to spend). Looks like 4 of us from this board will be there. I will ty to remember to wear my Camaros.net T shirt. If we all meet in the waiting area at ~1:00 that should work fine.
