Ok, got a hardtop camaro, had to buy aftermarket fenders, original gm doors.

hmm the passenger side fender went on fairly well, a little adjustment and the gap was almost perfect all the way down with the door.

the driver side is driving me crazy, i cant get the body line to match up and keep the gap even nearly the same all the way down...

the frames didnt look bent, but now this fender on the driver side has taken me so long im thinking its possibly bent a little... unnoticeably but bent..

anyone got any tips? to keep the fender from hitting the door i have it raised 3/4's of an inch with spacers about the same as my passenger side, but my gap at the bottom is enough to stick my finger in it, and at the top I can say its a 1/4 inch.

Is the Body by Fisher book any good for this sort of thing?

got a pic of the gap maybe we can spot something... Ideally both side would have the same number of shimms on the top of the cowl... but with repo you never know.... if I understand you correctly the gap is tight at the top?? if so jack the car up at the cowl (with fender loose) this should use the weight of the car to widen the top and move the bottom back to the rocker....

I just did this recently, exactly as you discribe. First, be sure ALL bolts are loose to the inner fender and rad support. Next, and old "full frame trick", put a jack under the frame right at the firewall on that side and lift, this should close up that gap. The you should need to push up on the fender to open the gap at the top.

This car I did looked hopeless, but ended up with some pretty nice gaps.

you got it right, the gap at the top is tight and the bottom has a large gap.

alright so put the jack on the frame right under the firewall?

should I put the jack directly under the firewall area or go back a bit further?

im taking a break from the cars for a day or 2, then ill hit back again at full steam :) this one annoyed the hell out of me :)

Did you replace the subframe rubber mounts. After 30 years they do tend to make that gap larger.

1) Try jacking it there, just make sure all bolts are loose and jack it up, while watching the gap. If it doesn't change move the jack to the rear some more. If everything is loose is should move pretty easy. Some times it help's to loosen the coresuport to sub-frame bolt on the side you are working on.

Measure the thickness of the subframe mounts side to side - front to rear and make sure the bolts are tight.
