So my vin number on the dash is 124379N593380
The vin number on my regi is 124379N5933380. What is up with that? Its a real RS. The cowl tag was lost when it was repainted. Can I get that straightened out from GM? I bought the car from a private part and ddnt even catch that.

The registration is obviously a typo. Your DMV should be able to straighten that out.

Just take a rubbing of the VIN tag to DMV for proof.

I'm sure you'll be able to straighten the reg out with registry by getting it inspected, but as for it being a real RS... ask yourself, "can I prove it." If you can, great. W/O the cowl tag, it would be very suspect to anyone. Think about all the base Camaros out there. Why wouldn't they (other than morals) just say they were all SS or Z28s and they just "lost the tag"? Then again, there are plenty that do...

the cowl tag on 68 and 69's wont tell you if its an RS or SS or not. Only build sheets or POP's can do that. Try a search in the TAG section and type in RS and you will find tons of info. on how to determine if a car is an original RS. :)

Since when? My 69 has a cowl tag which says X66. Base car w/ SS396 package. Do you mean won't tell you if it's an RS?

The "X"-code will only tell you if it's a big-block SS - there's nothing in the "X"-codes that will tell you if it's a small-block SS or an RS.

X55 will tell you it's a small block SS and not an RS, but X11 won't tell you it's a small block SS and an RS. It could be one , but it doens't have to be.

The DMV in Elgin, IL refused to fix my title unless I paid $75 to fix their mistake and get a new title. They turned one number into a 8 when it should have been a 9. We all know this is their mistake but I guess close is good enough. They gave me a form to take to my local Police Dept to verify the vin as being correct. Phil
