i have a 82 Z28, with factory a 305, and was thinking of scrounging up the cash to buy me an LT1 out of a 93 or up camaro. I was wondering on how hard the swap would be?? I still attend school so buying an LS1 is out of the question, would the LT1 swap be a good idea?

it would be cheaper and easier to just get an LT1 powered Z28 than it would be to do the swap. you can get high mileage 6 speed cars for under $5k usually- and the LS1 cars can be had for not much more than that if you get lucky.
then, it's jsut a matter of insuring the thing..
but, if you MUST do an LT1 swap into your current car, i'd suggest finding a complete running 94 Caprice cop car and take the engine and trans out of that, and hook it up with an aftermarket computer harness.
why the 94? well, it is OBD1, so it wil lbe more forgiving when you upgrade things like cams and heads and what not, and make sure to get a cop car with the single key that opens all the doors and trunk and runs the ignition, 'cause then you don't need to get a VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System- you know, the ignition key with the microchip resistor thingie on it that costs a small fortune to replace) bypass module or get the ecm reflashed.
you can get 94 LT1 cop car Caprices for under $2k, and if the one i had is typical, then after 227,000 miles, the engine will still look brand new inside with a slightly worn timing chain..
just make sure to get a car with fastory dual exhaust and the 8.5" rear end, as the single exhaust and 7.5" rear was installed with the visually identical L99 4.3 V8- which wouild also be a huge upgrade over your 305, i guess.
