has anyone here ever made the tunk area flat? i am replacing my trunk pan right now and i am thinking about making a new flat panel instead of the original drop. i would take 1" tubing and brace between the frame rails and then plug weld the new panel to the braces. any thoughts?

Well the cool part is that it's YOUR car and YOUR decision.
It would probably be easy, cheap and look really custom, but I think it will takeaway from the car's value. I personally wouldn't do it....but that's my purist side edging out my custom side.
With that said, and if you decide to do it, you'll need to consider how you will be mounting the gas tank since the factory tank straps are attached to braces welded to that 'dropped area'.

well i am converting to a LS1 and have a DSE mini tub kit. the stock tank is on the scrap pile!!! i think i could manage to install the LS1 tank if i had a flat trunk pan. I do have a replacement trunk pan but i think i be going flat.

Not saying what to do but if you go with a flat trunk pan and a rockvalley tank (or one like it) it would be an easy fit.
Just thinkin' out loud.

i have a hole in my trunk from rust and it looks like other portions are starting to rust as well. I'm considering replacing it, but that's not a job I could tackle myself considering I don't have a welder (or even a battery, jumpers, and two silver dollars) and if there's one thing I hate more than cleaning the interior windows its dropping the gas tank, which I imagine would have to be done to avoid a very fun explosion :beers:
