Does anyone know if the input and ouput shaft on a M20 transmission has any play in it, are you suppose to be able to move the shaft up and down and side to side at all.

When you move the input shaft, the output shaft also moves a little, should this happen or are my bearings wore out?

Thanks for the help.

Remove the front bearing retainer and check the bearing for visible damage. If you suspect damage replace it . It is a fairly easy job. A small amount of play is present on a new bearing. It wont be moving when it is resting in the pilot shaft bearing. The tail shaft will move because the driveshaft is not slid in the trans. The driveshaft yoke takes up the play in the rear and rides inside the tailshaft bushing.
