For unknown reasons my '85 z28 won't start. I have a newer crate 350 installed with the original distributor. Spark is getting to the plugs and fuel through the carb. It sounds like it is about to start and then it doesn't. My first thought was the timing but I recently adjusted it. It ran fine one day and when i went to start it the next it just didn't. Please leave me any thoughts on rejuvinating my baby.

If you have spark and fuel, the next step is to get them together. Is the spark "hot" enough to fire the fuel mixture? Is it a question of firing order, wires crossed? Did anything change from the first firing until now? Are both carb and distributer computer controlled? Is only one conrtolled?

Is it only getting spark while cranking?

check your ignition fuse then.. it may have popped. Otherwise check that the ignition to coil is getting juice with the ignition in run position.

I'll check the ignition tonight. That was going to be my next check. As for if it's getting enough spark I am not sure. What do you recomend to check this. Thanks for the input guys.

Check compression and oil. Machanical fuel pumps can Die the bad way and send fuel into the crank case, thinning your oil and killing your compresion. I learned this the hard way after an engine swap.

WOW, That sounds bad. I will certainly check that. The ignition fuse was fine. I was also told that I could make a jumper wire over the ignition from the battery and try to see if it starts then. Has anybody done this before. Thanks for the input again guys.
