i am about to tackle the task of 80% quarters. I have installed my own floor pan, trunk pan, and repaired my drip rail. I butt welded the drip rail but it was only about 18" of a repair. i could not imagine trying to fit and butt weld the complete qtr panel.
the car will be a NICE driver but not a show car.
any links to pics would be great.
thanks

A flanged lap weld will be the strongest. Flange the new panel to fit behind the existing 1/4. You will only need minimal filler then. Lap welds are typically stronger than butt welds.

so how do you "flange" the new part?

Check with Eastwood, they sell flangers both manual and air powered in a variety of sizes; for quarters, I'd think the more area the better... I have a small cheap-o one that looks like vice-grips but it only flanges 1/2" at a whack, it would take some time to do the quarters with it.

Beware of the dreaded read through / ghost lines. If you're interested, go here , great body shop forum http://www.autobodystore.com. and do a search on "read through lines".
