: Looking for a 200R4 tranny for my 68'
Xx-007-xX Jul 20th, 05, 06:40 PM Please help me out on this one folks- Im trying to locate a 200R4 transmission for my 68' I've been searching a little on the internet, but I guess Im looking in all the wrong places. I'm looking for one that is street/strip but not too radical of a tranny, and also with some sort of waranty. If someone in here is from Las Vegas then a little local info would be greatly appreciated..........007
PS: affordability is a key issue reguarding this thread
BPOS Jul 20th, 05, 07:14 PM I got one from Bowtie overdrives. www.2004r.com. I'm very happy with it - mine is the level 3. Located in Hesperia Calif - not too far from you.
Xx-007-xX Jul 20th, 05, 08:57 PM thx BPOS how much was the shipping? and also another question-I pulled out a TH350 @28 inches overal length, which i used to replace a powerglide about ten years ago, will this 200r4 bolt right in w/o any modifying of the drive shaft etc...(I do know that I need to get a crossmember for a TH400 and other items for the shifter).............007
BPOS Jul 20th, 05, 11:55 PM I went from PG to T350 to 2004R - Same driveshaft and slip yoke - no mods necessary. I HIGHLY recommnd you spend the $150 and buy the BTO crossmember. The T400 unit worked for me, but it must be removed in order to drop the trans pan. The BTO X-member goes behind the pan, allowing full access. New T400 crossmember is about $60 and requires modification.
PS Don't know on shipping - I picked mine up at their shop.

MStennes Jul 21st, 05, 11:31 AM Are the REAL Art Carrs that good? Also what size converter should I look at?
Thanks,
Mike
Xx-007-xX Jul 21st, 05, 05:54 PM Wow BPOS! it looks like you and I took the same path on trannies, I started with a PG also and then went to a 350 lol. I really appreciate the info on the crossmember, Im for sure gonna get one of those, I just visited the website and I am having trouble locating the crossmember you are talking about, can you do me a favor and give me the part number, and also- im wondering if I need to do any modifying of the exhaust, I have Flowmaster exhaust professionally installed. Dual 2 1/2" w/welded crossover, The bottom of the pipes are about even with the bottom of the subframe rails, and it was installed while I had the th350 still in the car..........007
MStennes Jul 21st, 05, 06:21 PM I just went with a CPT from the real Art Carr, I know you dont like vendor bashing but I just had a failure of a above mentioned builder and from the begining this tranny has not lived up to the hype it was supoosed to from pan leaks to having to go back 2 times for problems. I know it was a 700R4 but after all the dust settled I wasnt happy and everyone else told me the 700 couldnt take it, but some said it would but it didnt. I also had to modify their crossmember to fit and this I have heard is common? PM if you want specifics.
67 Plain Jane Jul 21st, 05, 07:15 PM Please pay very close attention to the t.v. cable adjustment. The trans will live or die depending on this adj. BTO will guide you through it even if you didn't get the trans from them.
pdq67 Jul 21st, 05, 09:59 PM I think, the real Art Carr figured out how to make them live first!!

The crossmember bolted right in and fits perfectly. On the exhaust - I can't tell you if you'll need to modify it or not. I did my exhaust after the trans install. Good luck!
Xx-007-xX Jul 22nd, 05, 08:37 PM Hey BPOS Thanks for all the info you have given me over this, Im goona go with the level two tranny and get the crossmember, does the level two come with the neccessary lockup solenoid and wiring?
