I bought a 12-bolt rear end a long time ago, and cant remember what car it came off of. Anyone know of a site where I might be able to find it's specs? Its for my 68 camaro.
Also, it is equipped with 4.11 gears right now...would I be ok with a 4 series carrier?...or do I need to know what the numbers mean first?
Thx

Here ya go http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#RearAxleNumbers
and be sure to read ALL their linked pages of info. its awesome. That is THE BEST source of camaro info. anywhere. Alot of so called 'expert' books dont come close to the info at CRG.
And welcome to Team Camaro :)

Appreciate that info...and will definitely keep it on hand for the future. The only problem I see is that I don't think this rear end came out of a camaro. I am about to purchase some Richmond gears and all the goods to rebuild my rear end, but I guess what I am really trying to find out it what carrier it requires.
All I know is that it is a 12-bolt w/posi, and has 30 spline axles. The gears in it right now are 4.11s. If I go to 3.73's, any idea what carrier i need or how to find out?
Thx again!

I think you'll have to remove the cover to be sure. You can actually get gears (3.73's or 4.10's) that will bolt to a 3 series or a 4 series carrier, but you need to know which carrier you have. Is the rear set up for leaf springs ? Is it the correct width (length) for a camaro ?

From what I remember, the overall length of the rear end is a hair longer than a camaro, but the leaf spring mounts were modified to fit a camaro.
I have already disassembled the rear end, and everything is out. How can I tell what carrier it is?
Im tired of paying people to work on my car...so trying to learn this stuff as I go.

You can look here: http://www.strangeengineering.net/catalog/index.html
and go to page 26 and it will show you how to measure. Make sure the spring perches you have will fit a first gen camaro.
