Did anyone here watch this show? They ran two almost identical Iroc-Z's on the quarter mile (both equipped with Turbo chargers) that were to battle it out for ownership of both cars. (Winner takes both cars home). Before the race they ran a Demo Pro Stock down the track to show how a Pro Stock Iroc is supposed to run. If I heard right, the demo had a 427 small block under the hood that was pushing over 2000 horses. This thing supposedly ran in the low 7's at over 180 mph!!
I never heard of a small block 427 before..Have you?

that must be the show with the "turbo twins".
they put turbos on IROCs, huh?
why? i can think of about 1000 more cost effective things to do to those cars for the performance numbers those idjits get out of them.
i suppose they only ran 15's in the quarter mile- as it seems like the cars are always slower when they are done with them.

They put on Vortech superchargers, not turbos. The demo car was Rick Head with an 89 Camaro making 2000 hp.

I tuned in right about the middle of the show, right around the part where they were fiddling around with the exhaust pipes. I kept being called away from the T.V set so I missed alot of key parts :(
Still, I've never heard of a 427 small block before.

Do a search on the small block 427. Seems like I read about it recently in Chevy High Performance or Car Craft. Check out this article:

1988 Iroc-Z Camaro.
Airs on Wednesday, February 23 at 11:00pm ET
History heads to the drag strip in this series as popular cars of the past are transformed into fine-tuned machines, revamped and ready for the speedway. Part reality show, part history, Full Throttle lets car lovers get under the hoods of their favorite rides. Two teams are given the same model of car in a similar state of disrepair. Supplied with a garage, tools, and parts, they've got just two days to get their wheels into high gear as they prepare to compete in an all-or-nothing drag race. The winner drives away in both cars; the loser walks away empty-handed; the viewer gets an adrenaline dose of automotive history. In this episode, GM's raging 1988 street machines, Iroc-Z Camaros, get a boost with new superchargers--giving them 70% more horsepower. TVPG
Adrenaline dose? Raging street machines? 70% more power? The IROC we dynoed made about 40% more power with a Vortec. Where did they find Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-Dee?
