tronic72 Jul 22nd, 05, 08:20 PM I'm by no means an expert, but if you want my 2 cents. I'd say that is a "typo" when the car was built. The odds of somehow sourcing a tag that close would be a million to one.

You should have seen thew owners' face when I showed him the numbers didn't match... LOL
thats what I thought as well.... the parts are original stampings and never screwed with
Z10Joey Jul 22nd, 05, 08:34 PM From the pics, that five looks sorta like a six, but that is definately a stamp error if in fact it is a 5. Kinda confirms they match, why would anyone fake a one number misprint! :)
Now I'll get emails telling me the crooks are starting to use reverse Psychology!
bilodeaulynn Jul 22nd, 05, 08:40 PM I agree. Certainly appears to be human error. Have seen this on engine transmission partial VIN stampings but not the hidden VIN.
Kurt S Jul 22nd, 05, 09:50 PM I have, once. All the partials were the same and correct, the VIN was stamped incorrectly!!
BTW, these are 10,000 apart. :) Same as the car I know of.
Do you have the trim tag data to go with that VIN?

re; 10,000 apart ....LOL thinking about numbers to0 much today.:clonk:
Block stamp #68N460005 (matches VIN on dash), V062IME (Shouldn't the "I" be a 1 also??), motor looks to never have been taken apart.
TAG Info....

Kurt S Jul 23rd, 05, 02:15 AM So the sheetmetal partial VIN's were off and the VIN and engine VIN are correct.
Interesting.... Means other cars built at the same time might be misstamped too.
Thanks for the pics! Helped a lot to figure that one out.
ccarney69 Jul 23rd, 05, 08:00 AM The I being used in the place of the one seems to be very common on engine pad stampings. I have several that are stamped that way. I was told that when the 1 wears out it was easier to use the I than to replace it.
jg95z28 Jul 23rd, 05, 10:18 AM The cowl partial VIN does appear to have been stamped a second time to correct the "5" to a "6". I think human error is a safe assumption at this point.
Kurt S Jul 23rd, 05, 12:39 PM Flip the pic over. I don't think it's been modified, just some dirt filling in the corner of the five.
