Is it possible that GM has a master database of all camaros built based on VIN, etc? It sure would put to rest most of the issues of determining the authenticity of cars. Am I dreaming?

Negative.
That type of data has been hunted for a LONG time, and just doesn't seem to exist. We all dream of the day it's found!
Now, if your Camaro was sold in Canada, you can get that type of data -

I still have a gut feeling it's out there. Someone has to have it. And I honestly beleive the day will come that will expose all the fakes.

Don't think it will ever show up. Been several attempts, the recent one quite thorough, and by a real car guy who wanted it badly.

Records most likely destroyed because "they had no business value to GM."
What a big mistake.
..And to think they'd probably get $50 for every car that still exists today just by passing on the info on a piece of A4 paper. :clonk:

That does exist except for vehicles of present day.

I wanted info on a 1992 truck I bought. The option sticked in glive box was worn away. The only way to find the info was to contact the GM archives. The dealers could not pull up the VIN. They had a microflim copy of the invoice. They only have records dating back to 1977-78.

Everything before that was destroyed many years ago when they decided to mircoflim records. A lady who was in charge of those archives was posting on another forum last year on this topic and she dispelled all the rumors out there about them existing. I know many think there out there but GM could care less if they were and would likely not release any info if they did. They are living in the present day and future, there is no reason for them to want to spend time and money to please a couple thousand old car owners. There is no incentive in it for them.

What a massive business GM Restoration Parts is..
If it wasn't for GM's great past in the late 60's/early 70's, few would be so die hard and loyal to them today.
