There are color coded speedo gears that can be installed in the transmission to correct for innacurate speedometers. They are usually needed for changes in rear end, or tire height. However, I'm not sure how just changing the speedo from 120 to 160 would change anything.

sounds like the speedometer gear that runs from the line to the tranny. It has to be matched to the rear end.

The speedo head makes no difference - they're all calibrated the same (1000 cable rpm = 60 mph indicated). You need the correct speedo driven gear to match your tire size and axle ratio. If it reads fast now with the new speedo head, it read fast before with the old one.
