I recently began working on a 68 coupe (it is a LA car) that has a lot of RS features but is missing the RS front grill and headlight doors. It has the lowered back-up lights, the chrome trim package, console gauges, AC, vaccum ball, tilt steering, power brakes and steering. It came with a 327 (from the tach I'm assuming a low powered version). In addition, it has the the headlight door tabs in the front fenders. The front grill is the SS version. There is no badging on the car at all. The paint on the rear and front fenders is original and matches the trim tag. I'm wondering whether people could order this variation from the factory or whether early on owners got fed up with the headlights and swapped them out. For instance, I recall a friend in the early 70s had trouble with his RS lights (in a 69) getting stuck and ended up disabling them. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I suspect it is an RS that either took a smack and was repaired with a standard front, or as you said, maybe someone just didn't like the hide aways.

My dad's 67 RS was in an accident in the early 70's, since the RS front was expensive at the time they opted to change it out to a standard grill and lights. They also changed out the 4 speed for an automatic when my grand mother got tired of the stick. White 67 coupe, 327/210 with red interior if anyone knows if she is still alive....
