View Full Version : How does this tag look?
BlackoutSteve Jul 24th, 05, 09:57 PM This tag looks good to me but more experienced opinions please.
The VIN is 124379N629206 and matches the 3rd week of April build date along with the sequential body number.
It's also a Tuxedo Black car originally, I read that maybe only 3% were this color.. Is that true?

Gambitt Jul 24th, 05, 10:34 PM I don't know about your tag, but my car is a 3rd week of april car too...and it was originally a tuxcedo black RS/Z28...but it displays a -- paint code on the tag.

BlackoutSteve Jul 24th, 05, 11:28 PM The "--" would indicate special order or at least a paint that wasn't known at the time of the tag stamping.. right??
RamAirDave Jul 24th, 05, 11:44 PM Not a real sharp pic, but the tag looks good to me.
The -- is special order or stripe delete, im pretty sure. Well, I guess a stripe delete would classify as a special order.

BlackoutSteve Jul 25th, 05, 12:33 AM Thanks Dave. Any ideas on the production numbers of Tuxedo Black?
..or at least if it's considered un-common..
Kurt S Jul 25th, 05, 02:11 AM I did this a couple of years ago. Only applicable to Camaros....

BlackoutSteve Jul 25th, 05, 02:25 AM Thanks Kurt.. wow, only 1.7%.
You know, CRG should release a book..
Seriously.
69SSConvertible Jul 26th, 05, 05:00 AM That's a great tag. What a combination. The deluxe interior is awesome.
Buy that car, or tell me where I can buy it.
BlackoutSteve Jul 26th, 05, 05:23 AM It's Down Under and I'm considering it. The car is in need of a resto worthy of it's options... Not sure if I can take it on right now..
Downunder Boy Jul 26th, 05, 05:20 PM how much do they want steve i could be interested in buying it!
bilodeaulynn Jul 26th, 05, 09:52 PM My car is 10 10 X77 D80. Built 08A. I know tag is original as I have had the car since 1976.
Most of the earlier cars I have seen painted black (as well as late 68's) have a - - paint code. I have a friend with a late 68 Z. It was not stripe delete, but still has - - paint code, and it was black with white stripes.
I know there must be more out there, but this is only the second tag, other than mine, I have seen with 10 10 X77.
Cool car. Wish mine had the 712 interior instead of 711.

BlackoutSteve Jul 27th, 05, 05:20 AM Wasn't Tuxedo Black removed from the option list during the 69 model year? I think I remember reading LA cars not having it available anyway..
Maybe the "--" came from special requests for black when it was technically not available..??
Kurt S Jul 27th, 05, 02:19 PM > Wasn't Tuxedo Black removed from the option list during the 69 model year?
No. Black was removed during the 68 MY, but was available all of 69, though it may have been a special order color.
Later black 68's may be -- coded. A black 69 car should be coded 10 unless it was stripe delete.
