View Full Version : 3 Point Belts 68 Convert Jul 26th, 05, 12:14 AM Where can I get these seat belts for my Vertible and does anyone have them in there Verts? Thank You, John Eric Kammerer Jul 26th, 05, 06:30 AM John - I have been looking for these too, and have not been able to find them. I talked about it with Billy Morris at Carlisle, and I have been meaning to send him some pictures of verts with factory shoulder belts to show how they mount and see if we can come up with something. I can only think of two issues. The top of the factory vert shoulder belt mounts to one of the top hinge bolts, under the side trim panel. I don't think that point is a big issue, because you could put plastic sleeves on the belt where it would rub between the panels, just like GM did. The bigger problem would be getting the belt to come up over the seatback at the correct postion and stay there. I guess you'd have to have a loop on the headrest like a later model car. One of the concerns Billy has in the design of his belts is whether they are safe and properly positioned, so as not to cause injuries from improperly positioned belts. I personally would rather risk a broken collarbone or something like that than eat dash or steering wheel (using factory lap belts), but when people get sued left and right, I can see wanting to make sure it is right. So, to answer the question, I don't think 3 points for a vert exist yet, but I am looking. If you or anyone else has ideas on how to design them, let me know. Eric Kammerer Jul 26th, 05, 07:03 AM I should clarify that I haven't found modern, retractable belts. You can get factory style fixed shoulder belts from places like www.ssnake-oyl.com . here's a past thread (with pics) of Chris' car with the Ssnake Oyl belts. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=45025&highlight=convertible+shoulder+belt+install jrager Jul 26th, 05, 07:59 AM Try searching in the Interior section. Here is a post about them with links. I dont know if they will work for convertibles but the informaiton may help. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=56908&highlight=seat+belt Eric Kammerer Jul 26th, 05, 11:05 AM They don't work in a vert... ss dave Jul 27th, 05, 12:17 PM Wesco Performance has modern 3 pt interia retractable belts. These are the same belts that others have sold, ie. Orange Guys. They attach to the rear seat side panel. I'm planning on getting a set and check out the fit and function. I agree a fractured clavicle is easier to treat than facial fractures and dental injuries- trust me I know. Eric Kammerer Jul 3rd, 07, 01:06 PM Paging SS Dave... Did you ever get the Wesco belts and see how they mount in a vert? I have spent too many hours fighting with the 4th gen belts trying to figure out how to mount them, and I am ready to give up. Dynawolf Jul 6th, 07, 09:16 AM Has anyone considered switching to a late model GM car seat with the integrated sholder belt? I know the floor would need to be reinforced. Just a thought from a guy who ate a steering wheel of a 67 dart with just a lap belt. Eric Kammerer Jul 6th, 07, 09:43 AM Did the wheel taste like chicken? The use of seats with integrated belts (Chrysler Sebring vert and BMW vert come up most often) has been discussed, but none of us would have the engineering data to say what reinforcement/fasteners would be remotely safe to hold these seats in a car that was not designed for them. You'd either need materials and engineering data that went into the mounting system of the donor car to compare to what we have in our 1st gens, or you'd have to be willing to accept that the mounting system could fail and turn you, still belted into the seat, into some low tech, potentially horizontally firing, ejection seat. or you could attempt to overdesign... I started looking into it (and I am an engineer), but decided I'd never be comfortable. Maybe if you took floor mounting sections out of the donor and grafted them to the Camaro? I don't know what it would take to make me comfortable. camarosrlyf Jul 6th, 07, 08:11 PM Has anyone tried using a late model car belt system with a single attach point? Thinking maybe add a loop near the top of the seat? I was wandering around a junk yard and saw quite a few different cars, especially imports with that type of belts... BonzoHansen Jul 6th, 07, 10:22 PM Eric, might it be a matter of the lesser of two evils? A lap belt vs a seat with an integral 3 point bolted to a reinforced floor, but w/o engineering data? |
