I bought this car long before I realized just how many fakes there were out there. I'm hoping I didn't get duped. Can someone give me an opinion on my tag? The vin is 124379N645.

Just out of curiosity?? What are the identifying factors to help decide if it is a GM original?? I am currently looking for a 68 camaro, and I do not want to get screwed!!

Well, Greg. Its kind of a "dont ask, dont tell" thing. Some/many of us here study them on our own, gathering pics and info of real and fake ones.

If we give out what we know to reveal a fake on a public forum like this one, then the ones out there that restamp tags will have the same info to make them appear more authentic. We'd like to keep them where they are at, but they will still get better, unfortunately.

Like Dave said, you need to do your homework. There is no information of any value on a '68 trim tag anyway so 99.99 percent of them will be authentic. It is only the '67 and '69 tags that are typically faked.

Make that '67 and '69 Norwood tags. The '69 Van Nuys tags are about as worthless as '68 tags.

Due to the popularity of the 1969 (little different body style), I understand why people would want to alter the tag. What makes a 67 so valuable, and why is Norwood so much more desirable over Van Nuys??

Later 69 Norwood tags have X codes, Van Nuys cars do not.

67 tags have the most information off all.

I disagree. The tag may be authentic, but it may not be original to the car. I've seen a lot of swapped tags.
This applies to all years.
