You often see either cast grey or black, and I think OEM paints makes something, but havent used or seen it. Heres one I did recently for the 69 Z. Its a dark graphite-type color, completely flat. Not exact, but better than cast or black, IMO: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b217/RamAirDave/GoldZ/100_0374.jpg dave William Jul 27th, 05, 12:06 PM This seems to be a good time to mention rear brake drums were painted black. Check any of the 60's vintage magazine tech articles about installing traction bars on 1st gens. I have several in my collection; all show black rear drums. Unreal Jul 27th, 05, 05:22 PM I used a paint from Rick's that simulates the heat treat look....kind of a flat dark charcoal, almost black, but not quite. Also, I thought drums were either black or natural, like the master cylinder. I'll check McNeish's book to see what he says. RamAirDave Jul 27th, 05, 08:58 PM I believe JohnZ said on here once that the whole assembly was painted black pretty much all over, drums included. I just dont think I can bring myself to recreate that factory sloppy look, though. I prefer detailed, over-restored (see pic above) dave djunod Jul 27th, 05, 11:04 PM Dave, I like that look as well... Looks great! |
