What have all of us found as the best paint for leaf springs

Since they were originally heat treated, rather than painted, it can be tough to recreate. You often see either cast grey or black, and I think OEM paints makes something, but havent used or seen it.

Heres one I did recently for the 69 Z. Its a dark graphite-type color, completely flat. Not exact, but better than cast or black, IMO:

This seems to be a good time to mention rear brake drums were painted black. Check any of the 60's vintage magazine tech articles about installing traction bars on 1st gens. I have several in my collection; all show black rear drums.

I used a paint from Rick's that simulates the heat treat look....kind of a flat dark charcoal, almost black, but not quite.

Also, I thought drums were either black or natural, like the master cylinder. I'll check McNeish's book to see what he says.

I believe JohnZ said on here once that the whole assembly was painted black pretty much all over, drums included.

I just dont think I can bring myself to recreate that factory sloppy look, though. I prefer detailed, over-restored (see pic above)
