Hey guys...just want to make sure my 69 camaro vin, L501838 is a match for my cowl tag, los116327, and how do you put the two together? The build date is 09b, and x201 is the batch code. I have owned car for over 20yrs...pretty sure no one has changed the tag...looks like its been there since new. If you need more info, I can supply. Thanks, Dave.

Yes, that VIN and body number are a match. Can you post all of the numbers of your tag? Does the VIN start with 12437 or 12337?

Thanks for the help with the trim tag...The tag is as follows:

ST 69 12437 LOS116327 BDY

TRM 712 57 B PNT

09b X201
And the vin is: 124379L501838

I think I have had some of this info on here before, but not all of it. I know how the trim tag breaks down, except for the X201...batch code...darn LA cars. Not orig engine or tranny, but everything else says 396 car. Be nice to know where my block is! Please do a lost and found! Thanks, Dave.

Dave,
Tough to prove what it was for sure.
No broadcast sheet on top of the gas tank?
# of fuel lines will narrow the choices, 1 or 2?

I'd be interested in the axle code if you have it. :)

Thanks! (and your email address bounced, btw)

hey kurt, these are some of the things why I think the car is a 396:

Has dual fuel lines...(3/8" X 1/4" vent)
welded exhaust hanger on dr side...
bb trans crossmember...
brake valve under driver door...
disc brakes...
correct tach redline...
FRAME MOUNTS are 3950114 and 113, these i removed in 1983,(and still have), so I could put a bb chevy in the car as it had a sb in it(302 which I still have!) went to dealer to get factory bb frame mounts and when I went to put them in, they were the same style, offset on drivers side for clearence...so car already had bb mounts, and I was told the frame mount #s 3950114, 113 were only given to assembly line cars, not from the dealer...true or not I dont know. But the frame mounts I took off looked like they had been on since day one...and should mention heater core box has never been off either and is bb style. Have looked for build sheet, but not there. If not bb car, someone went to a lot of trouble 25 yrs ago to make a fake one...to many details for that long ago, besides, they weren't worth faking then...and if you did, you just put emblems on and you had the look anyway, at least I dont remember at the time trying to tell people my car was bb...hell, it had a 302 in it! Wished it was a z car. Maybe should get #s off block (302) and see if anyone out there has the car with correct vin! Make someones day a little better!

Sure sounds like a BB (L35 or L34)! Unfortunately, no way to absolutely prove it. :(

Yup, get the #'s off of the 302 and post them sometime.
And if you ever get your axle code.... :)

Thanks, what's the rest of the code? The date will tell if it's original.

Hmm, nope.
0218 - Feb 18th. 3.31 posi is a good sign for a SS, but a Feb axle in a Sept car isn't. Looks like it's been changed.

Hey Kurt, The 0218 I gave you on my 12 bolt rear, the 2 looks more like a 7...so more like 0718...was dark out when I was looking...sorry for that, does that make it more in line? Thanks again, Dave.

July 18th. That's looks better! A bit early, but it was the beginning of production.

Thanks Kurt...feel better about that! I did more research on my frame mounts and the #s 350113 and 350114 were only issued to cars on the assembly line...even if you bought mounts from the dealer, they were a different number. At least all the sites that I could find said this was true.
I know without the orig block or paper work its not official, but it sure screams 396...maybe one day I will find my block someware...But thanks for all your help on this, and again in about a week or so I will post that "dz" blocks vin and see what happens, be awesome if someone here has that vin! Talk about making your car worth a dollar or two more! Thanks, Dave.
