I read a post somewhere on here stating they had a small block car with all the clues to a big block car. I'm in the same boat.

My heater hoses come out near the fender. I have a 12 bolt posi rear end. Four speed Muncie. When I bought the car it had a small block but I was given the "original big block, heads, intake and crank.
' I cannot find a partial vin anywhere on that block but it's casting is 3916323, which is a 396.

The block code is dated Jan 17 of 68, while the body is June or so.

My big reason for thinking it is a SS 396 is the original paint on the SS hood is underneath in the four high riser section of the hood. I'm currently sanding off Yellow lacquer and finding corvette bronze, which is 0-0 on the cowl tag and on every other piece of original sheet metal on the car. It has never been hit where a section had to be replaced.

That being said, if not the engine, the body appears to be a SS car.

Does my argument make sense or am I missing something?

Does the block you got with the car, still have the VIN and date code stamped on the pad in front of the passenger side head? If it does and it matches your car, that is enough to answer some of your questions. Nice to see another corvette bronze car found. Does the trim tag on the firewall have the O-O code on it? Kevin

Yes, the paint code is 0-0. The TR code is 714. On the top right hand corner there is a P101, any idea what that means?

The block is a weird situation that I probably won't get an answer to. It is stamped XE, which is a code for a 68 truck. Now, the block also has Pass Hi Perf casted on three areas of the block. No vin and it has never been rebuilt so it wasn't surfaced. Also, the water pump mounting holes are near the surface where they would be for a passenger car, not a truck. It's unfortunate for me because I really do believe the seller about the block and everything else that goes together. Just can't prove it.

So your car is a corvette bronze? Could you send me pics and TClovis@aol.com I'd like to check yours out as I'm in the process of restoring mine. Thank you.

Check the latest edition of "Muscle Car Review" (Page 54) there is a pretty nice Corvette Bronze Camaro featured......

"Pass Hi Perf" is on most all of the 396 blocks, weather truck, hi-perf or low performance cars. The same castings were machined for many uses.
