I read a post somewhere on here stating they had a small block car with all the clues to a big block car. I'm in the same boat.
My heater hoses come out near the fender. I have a 12 bolt posi rear end. Four speed Muncie. When I bought the car it had a small block but I was given the "original big block, heads, intake and crank.
' I cannot find a partial vin anywhere on that block but it's casting is 3916323, which is a 396.
The block code is dated Jan 17 of 68, while the body is June or so.
My big reason for thinking it is a SS 396 is the original paint on the SS hood is underneath in the four high riser section of the hood. I'm currently sanding off Yellow lacquer and finding corvette bronze, which is 0-0 on the cowl tag and on every other piece of original sheet metal on the car. It has never been hit where a section had to be replaced.
That being said, if not the engine, the body appears to be a SS car.
Does my argument make sense or am I missing something?
