I got an email from someone selling a 69 RS and he asked if the headlight washers were 'always' part of the 69 RS package or were they a seperate option. I told him I was pretty sure the washers were always part of the RS in 69 only but that the washers might also be an RPO option seperate as well for other models but that I would check with other experts :) thats you guys. Any ideas? :beers:

I went thru the CRG list of RPO options and cant even find reference to the headlight washers in the RS description or as seperate RPO number. hmmm?

Headlight washers were included with RS equipment, optional on non-RS.

Very unusual to find them on a non-RS car.

I think it's RPO CE1, but I don't have my AIM with me at the moment.

The plot thickens, here is the info. I got back from the gent., Ive NEVER heard of 'whiskers' that sweep the headlight, anyone else?

"The books may say that this was standard equipment, but I know better, I have had original unrestored 69 RS Camaros and they did not have headlight washers, keep in mind I had some of these cars when they were only 8 years old when I started selling them, I also was around them when they were new cars. I have had 69's from both plants and some extremely rare cars also, I have never seen a non-RS with headlight washers. The real headlight washer system that I have seen has whiskers that drag over the doors as it opens and closes, that was how the squirters worked to clean the headlights, most RS cars that I now see with headlight washers do not have these whiskers, all the original RS Camaros that I had in the past with headlight washers had these whiskers. Experience is the best teacher, I tell like I know it, hope that helps"

What a bunch of hooey.
Have him look in any GM documention (assembly manual, service manual, parts manual, sales brochure, service news, etc).
Headlight washers were included on all 69 Chevy's that had hidden headlights.

His memory is apparently a bit fuzzy with age - there were no "whiskers" of any sort. Headlight washers (two nozzles per headlight) were part of the Z22 Rally Sport package, and were available on non-RS cars as RPO CE1. The RS nozzle installation and aiming procedure is in the A.I.M. in Section Z22, Sheet B11, and the non-RS option installation is in Section CE1, Sheets A1 and A2.

of course the wiper motors being different helps confirm that the RS was different, for bolting the solenoid up to. RS wiper motor
# 5045605 and non-RS # 5045572
thanks guys.

Actually, wouldnt the CE1 option on a non RS require the 5045605 wiper motor?
I would totally disagree with the gentleman from Chicago. I agree with JohnZ. Maybe in a brouchure it showed the water squirting on the headlamp and the spray looked like a whisker?

RPO CE1, just 116 made

#6 on the rare option list for 69 production

rarer than the FACTORY equipped JL8, which I'd estimate there are twice as many now as the 206 originally made

wasn't there a lot of drug use during this "gentleman's" time in the 70'?

That would explain his lack of memory

no whiskers on RS cars dude

besides the washer is a WET system, it squirts when the lights are open and the washer is engaged, not everytime the lights go on

Couple of random thoughts:

The headlight washers will squirt with the headlight doors closed also.....

I read recently that 46 '69 Chevelles came with the headlight washer option..

Well after sending him your comments, edited of course :), here is his response:

"I will stick with my story, ask all of them how many Camaros have they owned or sold in the last 27 years? How many have they appraised? I have appraised hundreds of RS cars, same story, bought and sold hundreds of RS camaros, same story".

Guess he doesnt want to even consider he 'might' be wrong. Gosh isnt the resto business all about trying to be as exact as you can? Maybe learning the true facts would make his previous sales efforts 'wrong' and cause some egg on face syndrome. Sounds like he wont correct his thinking unless he gets a personal letter from GM signed and notorized :) Oh well. Thanks guys. And dont forget to trim your whiskers on your RS. :)

If anyone wants to know which ILL. classic car dealer this is, pm me or email me. :clonk:

I've owned over 75 69 Camaros since 1973

6 69 Pace Cars (1 67 Pace Car), 1 Z10, 6 Z28's

(almost bought a COPO in 73, but the guy wanted $3500 for it and the engine was in a chevelle drag car (350 in it's place) that was an all black car in Birmingham Michigan, anybody own that one?)

He must be an expert.
