If its an aftermarket of the shelf cam, the easiest way to identify what you have in there is to remove the flywheel/flexplate, and remove the freeze plug that sits directly behind the cam. The grind number is normally etched or stamped right there.
I did as you suggested but I marred up the edge of the end cam bearing in the process and most likely pushed the cam forward. :( I do not think it will affect it unless the cam walks back all the way to the edge of the bearing. Could I have moved the bearing at an angle to ya think? Any ideas as to far back a cam will walk? OK so the cam has 4 white dots in a diamond shape and the numbers E932P. I did a search on Yahoo (Google is down for some reason) and found nothing, also searched summit part numbers but no match. I thought maybe it was an Engle or Erson because of the E
Calpantera Jul 28th, 05, 01:38 PM Had it wrong, grind number is E923P
travis Jul 28th, 05, 02:27 PM The cam will be fine...it cant move forward much. It does sound like an engle grind but I dont have my catalog here where I'm at.
Calpantera Jul 28th, 05, 02:35 PM I called Erson, not theirs, called Engle not theirs either. Now I am tryting to get Elgin on the line to see if its theirs. Maybe Eldelbrock? :)
travis Jul 28th, 05, 03:50 PM I have a ton of cam catalogs at home...and I'll be there tomorrow. I'll see what I can find then.
Calpantera Jul 28th, 05, 04:34 PM Hey thanks Travis, I really appreciate it.

pdq67 Jul 28th, 05, 05:24 PM It's probably an Elgin grind but I lost my cam list so can't ID it for you..

Calpantera Jul 28th, 05, 07:00 PM After doing some searching I found a reference to an Elgin E923P on this Crane cross refernce chart http://blueracer.cranecams.com/reference.htm
It cross refernces to a Compcams 12-205-2
http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Search/CamDetails.asp?PartNumber=12-205-2
or a Blue Racer WG-1103 http://blueracer.cranecams.com/chevysb.htm
The specs on these two cams don't match so I don't see how it was a cross reference. I guess I will wait till I have the actual specs from Elgin, but its beginning to look like its not much of a bumpstick, now I wanna pull it and replace it.
pdq67 Jul 29th, 05, 06:39 AM It's a Performer cam!!
Great little cam for a stock motor, imho..
270/204/280/214, 112/107, .420"/.443" lift hy-cam..

Calpantera Jul 29th, 05, 08:15 AM Its an Edelbrock Performer, are you sure? I think thats a bit tame for the heads and intake I am running, let alone the gears out back. Whats the RPM range for that cam?
pdq67 Jul 29th, 05, 05:49 PM Straight out of my 1990 WBR cam cat.!! Marketed by several as the generic, "PERFORMER" cam!!
Imho, it is an old style cam that is one step up from the stock, -929 cam and for mild motors is a DANDY!!!
Spec's on the -929 are: 195/202, 112/108, .390"/.410" lift. It has been used in everything from a 195hp/283, 275/and 300hp/327, 295 and 300hp/350 and 265hp/400. The -929 is a Great little-bitty hy-cam too....
