Does anyone have any input on the aftermarket versions of the 30-30 duntov. (like the Crane Blueprint) or the CompCams Version versus an original 3849346 30-30 cam?
I found an NOS cam on ebay, but its now over 150 bucks and you can get the crane blueprint with lifters for less than that.
i'm asking because the last time I used the crane blueprint, the car ran terrible. And i've owned original 30-30 cammed cars and they run great.
any thoughts?
Thanks

Aaron, I hope you get a reply, as I have the exact same question. I'm approaching a DZ-spec build, all the right parts, some original, but I have the LT-1 cam, not the 30-30. I've seen written that the Crane is the same as the GMPP, same as the original....same as....we'll see. Maybe a call to Crane would help you? If you get an answer outside of this forum, let us know......and good luck with your project.

The GMPP cam and lifter set is manufactured by crane.
McNeish says the replacement blueprinted cams are superior. I am a bit skeptical as I had a bad experience with some crane parts 30 years ago and have steered clear ever since.
Would like to know if anyone has actually used the GMPP cam and lifter kit and what the results were.
BTW, I doubt anyone could tell the difference in your 178 cam as opposed to the 30 30, just by listeninig.

i'm asking becasue I had bad luck with the GMPP crane blueprint cam. It ran like crap and i degreed it in strait up. I had another Z moto (both 302s) and the only difference really was the cam... one had the Crane and the other was original. The original cammed motor seemed to run alot better and was much more consistant and reliable...
i'm just wondering if my bad experiance with the crane was a fluke?
Thanks

I'm running the Crane "30-30" blueprint cam and lifters in my 302 and the car runs great, with no problems. It pulls very hard above 4,800rpm and has the same lumpy idle that the original cam had with about 8" of vacuum. I went with the Crane vs. the GMPP as I was told by many folks that the blueprinted cam was just a better produced piece. If there is a performance difference between the Crane and the original, I haven’t seen it.

Aaron,
I freshened up my original 302 about two years ago. I put in the Crane blueprint and I am very happy with it. As stated above when it hits around 4600 to 4800 RPM the motor comes to life. It seems like it will wind up forever.
It's definitley not a putt around town cam. You've got to keep the R's up.
If I had a NOS cam to install when I did my engine I would have used it just because I'm into originality. They have casting numbers and date codes. The one you referred to on ebay will probably go for a small fortune.
I've got the original 30-30 in my garage. A couple of the lobes were a little flat.
