Looking for other folks running a 383 in their car. Wondering what your horsepower and torque specs are. Also wondering if you have run it in a quarter mile and what speed/time your getting. I am currently having a 383 built for my 67 and although i have no intentions of racing it, (well maybe once or twice just to see) i was curious to know what time/speed i might expect in the quarter. Its dyno'd at 420HP/400ft lbs torque. (3.55 rear end) Any thoughts on approx where that might come in at? Thanks.

I'll second that, I'm thinking about buying me a 383 Rotating Assembly and want to see how easy it is to get into the 11's or low 12's. This is a two for one thread....

You will have to provide a lot more information for anyone to really come close. There are way too many variables. Transmission type, vehicle weight, traction devices, frame connectors, tires, stall speed, etc...

Not to mention the thousands of different 383 combinations. (intake, exhaust, carb, cam specs.

If the car is set up and hooks decent you should be able to run low 12's with a pretty mild 383. Getting into the 11's takes a little more work/power or better hooking car. I went into the 11's on street tires and a flat tappet hydraulic cam on pump gas with 3.42 rear gears.

A little more radical example of a 383 is Eric's engine he has touched the 10 second zone.

So it all depends on what you put into getting the combo dialed in.

Thorpe with your HP specs and it being a 4 speed car. i would say depending on the tires you run, you should be able to break into the 12's. Getting it to hook will be the challenge. I strongly suggest sub frame connectors if you don't already have them.

If it dyno'd at 420 HP / 400 TQ at the flywheel expect mid-12's at about 107-108 MPH with an average weight 1st gen Camaro and a decent suspension. It's tough to guess without knowing more about your combo, but that should give you an idea.

Radical Royce? ;) Naaaaw

I estimate mine at 415hp, it makes peak power at roughly 5800rpms. But there is alot more to do with it then HP ;)

I'm currently in the middle of dropping a zz383 into my ride. Roughly same specs - 425hp, 450tq. I see a guy regularly at the local dragstrip that put the Fastburn 385 with the hot cam upgrade in his camaro and said to expect mid to low 12's at that HP level.

He's since upgraded the cam, added Caltracs, and drag slicks and now runs (a best) 11.63. What's so awesome about his car is that it sounds so mild when idling and is capable of running those numbers.

Eric, I agree yours is not "radical" it is just a little more radical than my hyd. flat tappet engine.

Just used your very well performing engine to point out how different a similarly sized engine can perform. Tires make a huge difference.

I definitely realize their are a ton of variables. I was just kinda looking for a ballpark estimate purely because i was curious. I will have many more of the details/specs of my engine after tomorrow.

Buddies 70 Nova SS, 383 full roller motor, .630 lift cam (solid roller),Vic Jr., Demon carb (850? DP),4.56's, and has seen 1.4X 60's and 10.5's @ 123. This is a N/A car too. Dyno'd at 383 RWHP with a bad plug wire (found on way home) and a fat jetting. They can run if thought out and set up right.
