: RPM Air Gap vs. Dart Single Plane Intake

I recently installed a set of Dart Iron Eagles, 200cc, 64cc, 2.05/1.60, and a comp cams XR286 solid roller cam, 286/292 duration, 576/582 lift. The engine is a 350 with flat top pistons, RPM Air Gap and holley 4150 carb. I have a tremec TKO trans and 3.73 rear so the rpm's fly up real fast. I shift now around 6800-7200. My question is would I gain much from the Dart single plane intake? Is the Dart any better than a Victor Jr?

Thanks in advance.

Im most 327-360 SBC applications, you would gain from 5800 rpms on with a single plane intake depending on cams and heads of course, but lose torque on the bottom.

I personally think you would gain HP in the upper rpms, but lose some HP and torque in the lower rpms. How much gained and how much lost? Thats where the test and tune at the dyno comes in.

If this is primarily a street motor that's dragged once in awhile, I would stay with the RPM air-gap. My engine setup is alot like yours and I stayed with the rpm air gap. If you do get the single plane intake and test, please relay the info.

I know, I know, but there have been several instances in the mag's through the years with certain combinations that weren't all that wild where a good old E-brock Victor Jr. did very well! Both down low for a single plane when compared to a dual plane as well as way up top where it shines.

I have read that it is about the best all around street single plane there is but I have no experience with one at all.

Just food for thought is all........

Yep, I don't think I've heard of too many people switching out a Vic Jr for anything else, where as it seems like a lot of folks end up switching out intake X, Y, and Z for a Vic Jr. I also don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about their vic jr. Seems like it's a tough one to beat. Like pdq67, I have no real world experience...yet....Just something that I have observed is all...
