I have an original GM plastic wood grain steering wheel that is in fairly good condition except a couple of cracks. I am going to use this wheel as it is now in my Camaro but would like to have it restored later. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am looking for personal experience type referrals. If you can furnish contact info that would be useful as well. Thanks!

When I had my 69 GTO Judge with a wood wheel, the only cracks I could find were where the rim was molded to the metal spokes. Very small. I always did 2 things if it was out in the sun. Put a cover on the windshield when parked and use a removable wheel cover to keep the hot sun off the rim when your driving it. This should be enough to keep it from getting worse than it already is. And of course it's good to have a garage to keep it out of the heat.

On my 69 Z I have a stock issued steering wheel (black) with "NO" cracks. I don't really like how it feels when I'm driving. Kind of like holding a pencil. So I use a black leather laced cover and it adds some thickness to it.

As for restoring your wheel. It can be done by you if you want to take on the job. If not "Hemmings Motor News" (the car bible) should have a load of info for you on who does it. Should be available at most book stores. As for doing it yourself check with Eastwood. I thought they had something in their catalog.
