Maybe this has been addressed, but I haven't seen it. I was calling aorund to the various sound shops trying to find out what was available locally for sound deadener. Seems like all we have here is Dynamat. I asked one guy if he had heard of Fatmat? He said that he had, but he recommended that I avoid it. He said that it was not as good as Dynomat, but that the worst part was that it makes the car smell like tar.
Has anyone had this problem? I can tolerate a lot of things, but not that.

I installed fatmat all over my car, inside ,door panels, trunk. No problems with smell. Easy install, alot cheaper than Dyna. There was a lot of discussion on this topic at Pro-touring.com, search Fatmat.

no smell with the 'death mat' that I used, it was a tar coating with foil front on it and it stuck down nicely too, no smell at all. Someone is trying to sell their overpriced dynamat inventory :)

Does the fatman dampen sound and heat?

I also used Fatmat and was pleased,I bought a cheap paint stripper heat gun from Lowes\Home depot for about $30 and used that plus a hand roller ( wallpaper section) and it went down great. I cut it in small pieces to fit the area that I was doing. I recall it does NOT act as a heat shield. I did notice a definite sound improvement after installation. I bought the 100 Square foot roll, did all of the floor/firewall/kickpanel/rear side panels and rear seat brace (did some areas twice and still had a little left over.

Is it possible this guy was inside a car at one time that had FatMat in it that had been overheated? Like by an exhaust that was too close to a floor board? Maybe some melted and stunk the car up.
