Please excuse my ignorance on this topic... the internal workings of an automatic transmission are very foreign to me  I've done a search trying to get some direction in figuring out this problem but I haven't found the answer. When in drive, the car shifts directly from 1st to 3rd gear. I can manually shift to second, but at higher RPM (over 2000), the trans slips and the motor revs wildly. It also does this when the kick down activates from 3rd to 2nd. I've checked the obvious such as, fluid level and vacuum connections and everything checks out OK. Some of the search results indicated possibly a governor issue? My plans are to replace this trans with a BTO 2004r this winter. Does this sound like an expensive repair where I'd be better off replacing the trans now or could it be a simple fix? My thought is that if I have to remove the 350 for service, then I should just put the new trans in now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is your kickdown hooked up? If the kickdown cable isn't hooked up properly, the transmission will stack shift - aka, it will go very quickly through the gears. Make sure that the cable is pulled at WOT, nowhere else.

Thanks for your reply. I don't think the kick down cable or its adjustment is at fault here. It would make sense if the problem only occured when in the drive position. My problem occurs in drive and when manually shifting to 2nd. The trans is deffinitely slipping because it pulls fine up to about 2000-2500 RPM and then the motor revs as if I shifted into neutral. If I let it coast a while, and then accelerate, it grabs for a second or two and then slips again.

Rick, Funny how you are having problems with you TH350 and are switching to a 200 and I am having problem with my PG (see my post) and replacing with a TH350. :) If you have the stock parts (brackets, kickdown, etc), and want to sell, please let me know. I am in NJ. Thanks.
