: Chevy Colorado
paulm May 2nd, 04, 04:09 PM I went and looked at one of these today. I liked it! It rode nice, had plenty of room for the family, has a 220HP 5 cylinder engine and could be had for about 21k.
It can't tow as much as my dodge, but it doesn't get 11 mpg either! I was impressed that at 65 mph the tach was only at about 1800 RPM, with 3.73 gears!
I don't know....I may be coming back to chevy, anyone have any negative input to change my mind?
jackr May 2nd, 04, 04:36 PM You didn't have your glasses on did you ?
paulm May 2nd, 04, 04:44 PM No, actually I didn't.... :D
C'mon Jack it doesn't look anything like the Avalanch! :D
Jason1968Camaro May 2nd, 04, 04:57 PM A guy in my neighborhood has one of the sporty models, red crew cab. I don't really like them, but this looks great.
novaderrik May 2nd, 04, 07:01 PM it needs a V8 with a performance package- say, maybe the 350 horse LS1 in the GTO with the GTO 6 speed bolted behind it, with 4:10 gears and about a 2" drop with some 17" wheels.. since they don't have the S-10 Xtreme any more, this would be a suitable replacement for that.
i bet they couldn't build them fast enough..
xodus May 2nd, 04, 07:35 PM I like the new colorado's... but I just had to trade in my sonoma, after 66,000 miles it spun a bearing for me. I think I'm going to stay away from new gm cars for a while... graemlins/sad.gif
Got an awesome deal on a 2001 explorer, 4x4, loaded, 100,000 mile warranty... (would still prefer a lightning, but wife says we needed more room :( )

Infamous May 3rd, 04, 04:58 AM If you REALLY wanted to get creative you could do a GMC Canyon (their Colorado) and drop a turbo charged V6 in it. Then try to find a totaled out Typhoon or Syclone and adapt the front wheel drive suspension to the Canyon for an all-wheel drive, turbo charged V6 GMC Canyon with 17" wheels and lowered stance. Basically....a modern day Syclone. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
GM would build it but they're too busy trying to be the Toyota Motor Company. :D
paulm May 3rd, 04, 05:08 AM Man, you guys and all of your performance oriented ideas.... :D I like it!!
I'm just looking for a truck that get's better gas milage (11 mpg with the Dodge around town), that can move the entire family and that I can tow/haul stuff once in a while.
The bed on the Colorado is kind of small, but I guess it's a tradeoff between bedsize and fuel economy.
My neighbor bought one a little over a month ago. So far he really likes it. Doesn't have the power of a V8, but for what it is it seems pretty nice.
This ones on my list, will have to off the '96 SS and the El Camino but that could leave room for a new project ;) I guess time will tell...
The Colorado's inline 5 cyl makes good HP (225 @ 5600) but at 225ftlbs @ 2800 it could use about 50ftlbs more torque... A header and good exhaust might help that out some...
Funny a base Canyon (GMC) starts out MSRP $330 more than the Chevy...

if I could aford to do all that to a brand new truck I could think of a lot better way to spend the money!! ;)
allcamaro May 3rd, 04, 03:11 PM Better not buy the first year because you know its takes a whyle to work out the bugs in a first time run. ;) ;) ;) ;)
paulm May 3rd, 04, 03:42 PM Well, no Colorado or Canyon for me... :(
I went to both the Chevy and GMC dealers and they wouldn't give me squat for my loaded 2000 dodge ram 4x4 with 35000 miles. I would rather destroy it then give it to the dealer for the price that they offered me in trade. My truck is way too nice!
Oh well, time to add a few mileage enhancers to the old ram! :D I figure I can get it up to around 20 mpg with a few tweaks.
