I still have mixed feelings about this place. I do know that living in a 21' camper is getting old fast. One thing that really stands out to me though is that rice appears to be considerably outnumbered by American stuff. I have seen more performance american stuff in Jeff City in 1 week than in Tulsa in 3 months. Lots of dodge muscle, but strangely very few camaros and a LOT of mustangs. Lots and lots of heavily built 4x4's...I not sure what for yet though. Lots of harleys too. Maybe because the weather has been flat unbelievable for august. I sure could do without the rain every 2 days though. And my allergies aren't bothering me there...I must be allergic to certain grasses because as soon as I came back to OK this weekend, the eyes started watering and the nose started running.
The big thing I don't like about Jeff City is the traffic though. You can't go anywhere without heavy traffic. The layout of the city is very compact...nearly everything is on one long street (Missouri Blvd), and it seems every highway in the area converges in the same place all at once. And the FT's are unbelievable on the weekends...but hopefully the tourist traffic will lighten up after school starts back up.
For all of you local guys, I'll have reliable transportation next week. I've got to start checking up on you guys ;)

Travis,

Glad you finally got to JCMO...

Yes, MODot didn't plan the highway's right at all..

There is a strong MOPAR group in the town as you have picked up on already.

I assume they still have the monthly last Sat. of the month street car show thing going on b/c I haven't been to it in a while..

After you get settled in drive on up to Columbia b/c I bet you WILL like it!! Seems like everybody does..

One thing that struck me as odd though is that the heavy traffic is only in certain areas. To and from work, I start hitting heavy traffic out by the, I think its called, the mall of America (Harry S. Truman blvd). Going home, by the time you get to this road, the traffic pretty much vanishes. So at least on the work commute the heavy traffic is just short duration, which is good.
Paul, I haven't been to Columbia yet, but the first few impressions I got of that place isn't so good. I was hunting thru the radio stations in JC trying to find something to listen to, and the very 1st day I was there, all I kept hearing was about armed robbery, missing people, shootings, etc in the Columbia area. The biggest thing was the guy that walked up to a drive thru at a taco bell and robbed them thru the drive thru window graemlins/clonk.gif I'll make it up there soon though...I would like to check out the surrounding areas once I get more familiar with the area and figure out where everything is at.

So where are the less crowded fishing spots at around JC? I live about 3 miles from Binder Lake...I'll have to go wet a line there and see what happens.

Ah, yes, the bad side of Columbia!!

Just let the good old News tell it like it is....

He, He!!

it ain't all that bad tho, imho..

AND yes, a ********* has been known to beat three people to death at what once was Quick Shop years ago with a claw hammer or was it the butt of an empty shotgun??

AND a guy has been known to have gotten "STOMPED" to death with 20, maybe 25 or so standing around watching late at night in the seedier part of town....

AND I mean "stomped to death"!!! I Don't think they ever found the who is it?, "perpetrator"(Sp?) was..

Or the married, "bi-sexual" Cop that cut his young lovers throat recently!! I saw the murdered kid earlier, like last year out at the mall fooling around with a bunch a kids..

I can go on ond on, but won't..

Ah, come on up and visit for a while, you might like the place b/c when the schools are all in session, the town hop's!!! AND football season is moving right along..

How's it going Travis,Liking your new job? Does J.C. seem a little strange to you because it's just not "home" yet? I'm sure it will start to feel more like "home" when you get more familiar with the town and surrounding area.

Chad, I haven't run into Myshka yet...thankfully  I did watch Joe Dirt again last night and from your description it kinda reminded me of Buffalo Bob :D
Mark, I'm sure thats it...its all just different. It really isn't a bad place at all...it ain't home, but it isn't bad. However, if things work out, I may be moving again soon. More details when I find out more...
The job so far has just been training...it is different than what I used to do, but it doesn't seem too bad...yet. Too early to tell at this point.
