View Full Version : top frame color o.e.?
blue ss Aug 10th, 05, 07:46 PM My 67 nantucet blue shows signs that the frame was originaly blue, I want to belive its o.e color. At shows I only see this painted black. If mine was a med blue top originaly, would they have painted the frame blue then? Anyone know? Thanks team camaro
gene_sc Aug 10th, 05, 08:11 PM semi-gloss black is what my paint chip info shows for the top frame. (although there is a Dark Blue listed, based on convert top color) I have done alot of converts and have never seem them any other color, unless they have been repainted.

blue ss Aug 10th, 05, 08:25 PM Thanks Gene They do list one thats intresting I wonder if the blue top cars were all blue there wasnt to many made I bet.
gene_sc Aug 10th, 05, 08:27 PM Info posted is for a 68 sorry I don't have 67 info yet... but I think blue top cars are rare... maybe it has to do with a 67-8 pace car???
KevinK7 Aug 18th, 05, 12:33 PM ...Just thought I'd add in here. I have seen an unrestored (rough shape) '68 (with blue convertible top) where the top frame was indeed BLUE. It was a 210hp 327 w/PG, standard blue interior.
If I can get back to the car in the near future, I will try to photo.
I have also seen a '67 (extremely rough shape) Originally Ermine white, standard blue interior, ...blue convertible top, ...and the frame was black.
I'll add one more note, ... I have owned (did the restoration on) a '67 pace car as well, ...top frame was black.
...this may not answer your questions, but I thought I'd share...
Kevin

JohnZ Aug 19th, 05, 02:53 PM Top frames came from the supplier painted black.
:beers:
ckaram Aug 20th, 05, 07:10 AM My car originally had a blue top, and the frame is still painted the blue factory color.
blue ss Aug 20th, 05, 10:42 AM We need to find out if the factory painted them from the suppliers just for the tripple blue cars? or just Van Nuy did it , or..... Thanks everyone for your replies. I have a nantucet blue ext.(O.E), Med blue convert. top(O.E) standard int. Lt blue. Im not Blue!
JohnZ Aug 21st, 05, 09:07 PM The assembly plants didn't paint the top frame; it came from the supplier already painted and assembled. The plants mounted the top frame on a buck fixture that simulated the body and installed the latching hardware, pads, top skin, and weatherstrips, then mounted it to the car.
blue ss Aug 22nd, 05, 07:15 AM Well that answers that thank you very much John I did not pic that up in my invetigation. Is that in the crg reports? assembly i would guess, Do you think van nuy may differ? There was some small odd things between the two plants that differd. I bet it was the same supplier for both!
This web site is the best thing since the 67 camaro! Thanks Team Cammaro!
JohnZ Aug 23rd, 05, 07:16 PM Same assembly process in both plants, same top frame supplier. These days the convertible tops come in fully-assembled/finished and ready to bolt on the car; all the handwork is done by the top suppliers.
:beers:
