View Full Version : Orange Wire/Purple Wire?

I am just about through with my 69 (a 16 month adventure). I kept the old wiring harness that was in decent shape. I am hooking everything back up but did not mark the wires good enough when I disconnected them. I have a orange colored wire that comes out of the harness approximately next to the a/c 'shoebox'. I have some wiring diagrams that (I think) indicates that this may be a wire for the interior heat/ac fan (that connects on the firewall). I have that connection with a purple wire on it now. Does anyone know for certain which wire goes where. Both of these wires have a round black rubber connector-end. Thanks for any help. I could have a few other questions before all the electrical works.

If it's a heavy gauge purple wire, then it looks like it goes to the blower motor. The only orange wires I can see go to the fan relay that's mounted on the evaporator housing, but they don't have a round rubber connector.

Non-A/C cars have an orange wire that goes to the blower motor.

Thanks for the responses. We are getting no power to the fan motor or the ac compressor. We can 'jump' these and see that they do work (new compressor, new fan switch). All grounds look good. We think that the electrical connections under the steering wheel may be not quite right. All the fuses in the fuse box are ok and there is an in-line fuse going to a relay on the evaporator box that is also new. I rewrapped the old harness which was in pretty good shape. We are continuing to look for the problem.

Get ahold of Mark Canning on the A/C wiring, he's the "local expert" That is his user name here.
