I just purchased a 69 Camaro that has a very good headliner but the stitching is seperating along one seam. I can not find any upholestery shops near where I live in central New Jersey. Any tips on how I can repair this?

If the seams are seperating, the stitching is probably dry rotted. I would replace the whole thing and be done with it. If you repair that spot, another will split sooner or later. Headliners run about $60 and about $100-$150 to install, or install yourself. I did my, it wasn't that bad.

Dennis, I agree. The old headliner will have to be taken down to repair and odds are some other place will rip. Go for the new headliner. It's not that hard to replace, should take a weekend. You just have to take your time to smooth the wrinkles out and make sure you put the bows back in thier original locations. So where in Central Jersey are you? There are quite a few of us here. :)

Dennis, the shop that has done my work in the past is in trenton, which is a bit of a trek for you. I am not to familier with the shops out your way. A friend of mine has some work done in a red bank shop. That should be closer. I will ask him, but he is on vacation and it might be a while.

Kevin:
Thanks for your help. I contacted John at Ace Auto Shop and he is just a few miles from my home. Sounds like he knows his stuff.
