Hey all, I finally am getting the major stuff done with the car and wanted to post some picturs and thoughts.

Here are my seats from a 4th gen trans am recovered in red vinyl by a good friend of mine in Loveland, Colorado. Not TOO difficult to fit in place if youre not trying to shave height off of the seats as i was at 6'2", and they ended up fitting pretty well.

(yeah, thats the service manual on the rear floorboard- oops)

These seats are so much better (more comfortable, supportive, adjustable) than the originals! I do plan to put some 3 point belts in but haven't seen anything that I really like yet.

This is my sterio and front speaker/gauge setup:

Really works well. The sterio is one of the only things that i had installed for me, and i have since then redone most of it throughout the course of working on the car. The actual box that houses the speakers was made by my local Radio Shack but i then cut the holes and made the front plate for the gauges to go into. I painted the speaker covers when i painted the rest of the interior last summer.

Finally, here is the gauge pod that i made a couple of years ago...

Almost all steel with filler for the inside radius, this thing took some time- I wanted a panel that was more modern and i think it kinda turned a bit street rod-ish as well. Still, I am happy with it. Huge gauges are awesome! I used LED's for the turn signals and bright indicator. This project came about partly because my original dash was cracked pretty good and i couldn't get a replacement that fit well.

If you are wondering, the column is a flaming river tilt column and the steering wheel is a grant rosewood classic or something to that effect- it's been awhile for that one.

Yeah, there is a ton of red on this car- It has really grown on me. Also, it comes out a lot brighter in pictures than it is in real life. It is not nearly as obnoxous.

Any questions feel free to ask-

Dan

Great job, Dan, the seats look great, comfortable and supportive, yet the upholstery style matches so well with the original, they look like they were born there. Food for thought as I approach rthat stage of my project....

Thanks for the compliments guys.

The seats do match well- i believe that they originally did have the vertical seams on the lower cushon, and i had the upholstery guy add them to the seatback (or extend them, can't remember) to make it look more like the originals.

Hansen, I have seen that style of belt but I'm not a fan of where the retractor is- I'm not sure about clearance with my seats on the seat back adjuster, and it seems a little bit cluttered to me. It wouldn't be bad but in my head, it seems that it would be hard to get into the rear seat with two belts in the way. That might not be such a big deal though. I'd like something that mounted on the roof or even behind somewhere. I was actually throwing around the idea of mounting the retractor in the trunk then running the belt to the mounting point in the headliner and then down, but haven't worked it all out yet. Those belts are what i will likely end up using though, in one form or another. I just need to make a decision and find some time I guess.

Dan - How much would your friend in Loveland charge to reupholster my 4th gen seats in yellow vinyl with yellow/black houndstooth? I ask because I am in Colorado Springs...and if he can do it cheaper than the guys here I'll drive up there.

The forth gen seats look great in the Camaro. I am thinking of a seat upgrade as well. The 69 seats aren't much to speak of as far as comfort . It looks like there is room for our 3-point seatbelts to mount between the seat and door panel. I know it is a tight space . Getting in & out of the rear seat is a little bit of a problem as you have to hold the seatbelt out of the way .
Also Thank Everyone for your purchases and comments promoting our products . Billy & Robin

I don't remember off of the top of my head how much it cost to have it done... you can call Dan up directly if you want to and he'll give you a quote.

I'd be interested to see some pictures of your console installation, I was thinking of doing that myself. I think that in the end though, I will end up making my own console out of wood/foam...

You know, as I think about it more and more, the morrisclassic belts keep looking better and better. I may have to cave at some point... are there any good pictures of the buckles anywhere? I'd like to see them a bit closer. Thanks

Great job!! You've really got everything looking like it's supposed to be there! I've seen so many cars with all kinds of stuff that's just hanging or clamped to whatever will hold it, but yours looks like it came that way....very neat & well thought out!!

Keep the pics coming!

Well, that answered that question for me. I was wondering if 4th gen seaats would fit and how they would look. I like the work you have done. It is very sharp................and red.

The 4th Gen. front buckets will fit. You'll need to make a bracket to make it work. I took some flat stock (~1/4" x ~2.5 or 3") bolted to existing holes with counter sink bolts, then drilled and tapped the new bolt locations. This allowed me to reposition the seats slightly towards the rear and give the driver a little extra room. I had the original rear seats upholstered to match the 'look' of the front buckets.

Dan, great post. I live in Parker, CO so maybe some day I will get a chance to see your seats in person. They look great and you may have convinced me to look into doing the same. I just got done making a custom console similar yours with a couple differences. I covered mine in black leather and I mounted 3 gauges and an aftermarket stereo in mine because I did not want to cut the dash. As soon as I get a chance I will post some pictures for you guys. I still have the stock dash gauges but I bought the white face decals for them and have them backlit with blue LED bulbs.

If you do find out what the cost is for covering the seats from your friend in loveland see if he will give us a break if more than one of us brings him some business. Sound like there are 2 more of us interested.

Sweet interior!

I have seats from a '95 Camaro being recovered to match my interior ('68 black standard), plus I am using the seat belts you mention. I test fit everything prior to sending seats out and it was very comfortable.

I'll post pics when done............

Hopefully I'll be able to talk to Dan tomorrow about those seats.

Milehigh, I like that idea of having the sterio in the console and the classy leather. Unfortunately my dash was already hacked up when I got it... I actually have been thinking a lot about a full length console/armrest for the tranny tunnel. I think that I would end up covering it in.... yep, Red! That is a whole nother subject in itself though...

Ok, I just talked to Dan, he said that depending on complexity, with vinyl, the buckets would be 225-250 each. The rear seat would be at or under 325.

Good luck!

hey nice job man i like the painted dash panel but i was wondering how did u mount the stereo in the dash i want to mount a aftermarket stereo in my car but i dont want to hack up the dash just looking for some input thanks.

If I was to do it again, I'd probably put an aftermarket radio just below the dash in the center console gauge area. There isn't a way to put the stereo in the dash without cutting...

Nice job Dan! I know what you mean about red interiors.

Can you tell us more about the steering column and what it took to install it?

Dwalk47
Jan 26th, 06, 09:04 PM
Thanks Carl,

The Flaming River column is the tilt column that they sell for the Camaro. I was surprised by how long it was, but didn't compare it to a stock column and wheel. I wonder if anyone has that dimension handy? Anyway, It's not a big deal, and could be reduced some by using a shorter column-to-wheel adapter.

The column installs easily- It goes right in but needs a u-joint in place of the rag joint, an electrical adapter from the horseshoe connector to the column, and under dash bracket(that I painted and can be seen in a few of the pictures). The bracket held the column about an inch lower than I wanted it to be, so I machined a new upper half from aluminum that relocated the mounting tabs. Some of that space may be due to the cluster that I made. One last thing is that this column is a bit smaller where it goes through the firewall, so I took some old hose and cut a piece out about 2" long and then was able to pry the inside and outside parts of the hose apart where the fabric is laminated in (so that it is thinner) in order to make the stock clamp work and seal at the firewall.

The tilt thing is really nice though, it is five position, and I usually just leave it in the position above center.
