My brother's 69 Malibu keeps blowing coils, the other day he cranked it up and it ran for about 35 seconds then shut off like someone turned the key off. It's got full MSD ignition, Probillet Dist, 6a box, Blaster coil, anyways checked to see if it was getting any fire to the plug and it was'nt so replaced coil with another Blaster 2 fired it up and it ran so we shut it off. This morning he goes to crank it up to go to work and it killed the coil again! whats the deal? before all of this the car would crank instantly everytime.

Several things to check. 1, no wires except the orange and black from the 6al go to the coil. Coil may have to be mounted in a upright position

Be sure the ignition isn't somehow being left on without the car running.

the wires are all hooked up right the coil is vertical, but the lock cylinder is a little loose, you can pull it out of the column about 1/4 of an inch I bet this is whats causing the problem, did'nt even think about that :clonk: thanks for the tip!

Lack of a ballast resistor where one should be (not familiar with your setup)?
