: 700R4 in a 68?

I know a 700R4 will bolt onto the 327 in my '68 and that I'd need a shorter driveshaft to hook it up. But what about the shifter (TH350 now) and the crossmember? Are all 700R4s the same? I have a change to get a worked out of an '88 Camaro for cheap money. Will that work? Anything else I should know?

Thanks!

do a search on 700R4 install and you'll find alot of information. 700 will require a differnet crossmember. Also do a search on a 200R4. It is requires less modification than the 700.

Did this swap in my 68..do a search in the transmissions section....lots of good info...but driveshaft will have to be shortened....measure first, for the cross member go to bowtieoverdrives.com...they are pretty much the authority on this swap....shifter can be modified, they have the kit...it is not too difficult, the later model transmission's are better like 88, 89 or above, check their website.

Bowtie Overdrives for your crossmember.

Make sure the 700R4 is from a V8. The f-body's also used a 60° V6 which uses a different transmission bellhousing pattern and will NOT bolt up to a V8.

I just installed my 700 R4 from BTO and their cross member, both fit nicely,
I haven't finished the install, (still need alot of other work). I will be using my factory console shifter. I bought an adapter kit for the shifter from classic, which should give me the necessary detents, but haven't istalled it yet, hopefully this weekend...Good luck :beers:

Shiftworks makes a conversion kit so you can use your stock shifter.

The kit I bought is from shiftworks, seems simple to install, I'll know more later in the week..
