Rushing to finish restoring new interior for dream cruise, I put in new dimmer switch for cosmetic appearance. (the old one worked fine). Since I did not have my console harness in, I did not check the lights (battery was disconnected) until the interior was finished. All interior lights work and running lights work except the headlights dont work (High or low) Could the new switch be the problem?

Also, when connecting the battery back up I had a mishap with the wrench and hit metal while still attached to the post. It jumped the fuse for the csty light fuse (30 A was in instead of 20A) and fried the base of the interior courtesy light. I put in new fuse and base ctsy lamp and it works fine. I just wondering if the headlight cound have also took a power surge when hooking up the battery?

Thanks,

Mike

Check your high beam floor switch. I had the same problem and the wire back there had come loose.

Hi,

It sounds likely. Real easy to check (I just had same problem in a headlight debug). I sense the car is a 68 from your ID. If so, the light blue lead which goes to the top of the switch is the hot when the lights are on.

1. slide connector off floor switch.
2. slide a new stripped at each end wire into the hole on the top pronge (where blue wire would connect) of the switch.
3. slide the other end of the stripped wire onto either of the other two leads (tan is low beam, lime green is high beams).
4. push connector back on and make sure wires stay on pronges.
5. pull light switch on.
6. Lights should come on if wiring is good and switch is toast.

Good luck.

Jim's Monday tech tip....Always connect the positive battery terminal and tighten it before installing the negative! lol
