Hi,

I am looking for data/information/help on a 68 camaro turn signal mechanism in the steering column. Does anyone have a pointer or schematic on how the electronics/mechanism works?

Also looking for help on related issue. I am getting a constant light lit on the left turn signal indicator in the dash and can not find out why. This only happens with the lights are turned on in the park position. When left turn signal is inidiated the light does flash on/off. When right turn signal is inidicated the left light stays on and the right one flashes on/off.

any/all help/comments appreciated.

thanks

Turn on the parking lights and the left turn signal and verify that the left tail light and front signal is flashing from dim (parking light filament only) to bright (turn signal and parking light filament) and not just on and off. If it's flashing dim then off you have a bad ground on one of the left sockets. Clean up the grounds and your dash indicator should go out.

Update,

Your help was on the money. Problem appears to be faulty ground as I cleaned up the grounding to two front turn lighs and now both turn signal lights stay on on the dash when park lights and full headlights are lit. Suspecting some sort of resitive short to frame that is creating voltage on frame that is driving back to dash. Now need to track down resistive short. I no longer suspect the turn signal mechanism as when it is disconnected by pulling apart connector to steering column lights are still lit up. Power coming from frame, not from steering column.

Will update when found as this might be of interest in the archives.

Thanks to all who helped. Appreciated.

Sounds like if you clean up the grounds to the headlights you'll be alright if the dash turn indicators only light up when you turn on the headlights. Also make sure you have good ground from the negative battery cable to the body somewhere.
