View Full Version : I need a tranqualizer gun
travis Mar 14th, 04, 04:41 AM Seriously. And I need something that will take down a 50-80 pound dog. Actually several of them. Not kill them, just drug them up enough where I can catch them and load them up. Anybody know of anyplace I could rent or borrow one, and the appropriate drug to use? The local vets have been no help.
I won't go into WHY I need a tranq gun, but its this or the .22
stevo camaro Mar 14th, 04, 05:05 AM C'mon Travis, tell us why. Sounds like you got a pack of wild dogs.
They can be extremely dangerous in a pack.
In 1977 me & my brother & father were attacked by a pack of 7.
But good for us that we were hunting that day & had guns.
We were dove hunting in this little valley & heard them coming. They circled around us and got real close, and as soon as dad fired a shot in the air to scare them off one lunged & grabed my brothers leg.
Dad kicked it hard, and about that time a black lab was running to jump on his back. I fired and killed it, but the others didn't run away. They kinda backed off but then came creeping up again!
The one that was on bro's leg let go & dad shot & killed it. My bro's pissed & scared now, (so was I) and he just opened up on them. We all did. Out of 7 dogs only 2 escaped alive.
It was valentines day, I'll never forget it as long as I live.
We called it Dog day afternoon after that. Also the valetines day massacre.
Maybe they wanted the birds we had, not sure why they would do that.
None of the dogs had tags, and it was a wierd mix of breeds running together.
Everytime I see 2 or more dogs running together I never take my eyes off them until they're gone.

Have you contacted animal control?

Function: noun
1 : a plea of justification for the use of force or for homicide
2 : the act of defending oneself, one's property, or a close relative
BillK Mar 14th, 04, 08:08 AM Travis,
Check with your local animal control, or maybe natural resources police. In our area, they will loan you traps for racoons, etc. They might have one big enough for the "pups"
travis Mar 14th, 04, 08:42 AM Damn Steve  Sounds like they was just hungry ;)
It's not exactly wild dogs...well, it is and it isn't. Most of them are "our" dogs...meaning my wifes because I definately never wanted them. Most of them have been dumped out here around my house (I live out in the country with 5 acres). The other 2 is our neighbors dogs down the street that keep coming over to the house all the time, and when I complain the neighbors will chain them up for a while, then a couple of weeks later they are back down here again. We had a large female dog that was dumped and we had actually planned on keeping her, and I spent a small fortune building a doggy "stockade" to house 9 large dogs, with a seperate fenced in area for the one and only female. The neighbors lab came down, climbed the fence, and got her pregnant...and she had 9 pups  Then 2 more pregnant mutts got dumped out here in the last few months, and they had 11 pups between them. As you can see, we are swarmed with dogs graemlins/sad.gif We have given away and sold probably 90 dogs in the last 5 years, and get the females fixed IF we can catch them. Tulsa county animal control has been absolutely useless...I can call them and they MIGHT show up 2 weeks later. Unfortunatley I love animals and have a hard time shooting them (but have had to do it a few times), and some are genuinely good dogs. Right now, this latest batch of pups is almost weened so we can get rid of them. Some of these dogs running around here are pretty much wild...they don't attack people or anything or otherwise I would have already killed them, but they can't be caught, and they roam the countryside and get into peoples yards, chase their horses, get into peoples trash, etc. I have had enough...I want to keep 2 dogs and get rid of the rest. Plus, since I am losing my job I can no longer afford to feed that many large dogs. The SPCA said they would take some of them...if we could catch them. And another place said they would take some also...again if we could catch them. As far as the neighbors dogs, I am going to haul them down to the pound.
Few things pi$$ me off more than people who dump animals
MrDanB Mar 14th, 04, 04:15 PM Travis, I agree! People who mistreat animals are a$$holes! Sounds like you're in a real dilemma there... To catch them, maybe you can use the simple box trap method with some greasy steak scraps, when they crawl under the box, yank the wood stick out and voila, trapped lab. Good luck to you! Keep us posted. (I have a golden retriever myself ;) )
