My 69 gets unbearably hot in the fron of the car. I can actually feel warm air comming in like the heaters on. Can I install a new firewall pad without stripping down the car? I neglected to install one when I had it torn down and now I'm paying the price.
Thanks,
mike

If I remember right the pad serves as a gasket for the air box. I'm sure you could cut the pad to go around it but I think to do it right you would need to remove the air box. It would about the same as replacing the heater core. Not a fun job but would be worth it.

I got fed up with trying to install my repro firewall pad and threw it out. I am just going to double up on the "brown bread" on the firewall. The firewall pad does go between the heater box and firewall as well as you will have to loosen the duct to the dash defogger.

Hot tip for summertime driving, disconnect the heater hoses from the engine and replace the fittings with plugs.I've been doing this for years and I bet the inside temp drops 20 deg. while driving. My girlfriend swears it works.

CFunk. It did not fit well, it was a pain to line up all the little holes, the plastic plugs just flat sucked, and frankly, I got frustrated (read pi%$#d). After trying over several days, I just threw it out.

Just did mine this week...removed the heater box, the pad goes under it, tried to do it without removing stuff, but in the long run....I ended up taking out the steering column, gas pedal, brake pedal assembly...It really made the job easier, and is worth the extra couple of hours to remove it....and ended up using the factory rubber hold downs...the plastic ones that come with the pad really do not work ...like someone mentioned above....as much as you do not want to strip the firewall, again, it is worth the effort
