I wasn't sure where to post this so I figured this would be as good a place as any.

I am getting to the point on my project where I need to start designing a back seat frame. While it isn't a Camaro that doesn't make much difference. It would probably be about equal to a mini tubbed Camaro. I am not looking for any specific plans, I just want to look at a few pictures so I can come up with my own plan. I will make the seat so it tilts or is removeable so I can get to the 4-link for adjustments and maintenance. 99% of the cars I see that are tubbed have no back seat, that is not an option for this car. It was one of the main goals when I started building it.

I guess what I am looking for is a narrowed rear seat picture or two.

Thanks!

Royce:

Glad to hear you're getting to the 'Interior" point of the Buick.
No pictures in my files... Funny - but, I was walking through my favorite 'auto parts' place - you know "Pick-N-Pull" :D a few weeks back and noticed a Geo or Suzuki 'Something' ( you know, the little 4x4 thingys... ) that had a tiny fold-down rear seat assembly. I fiqured it might make a good rear seat treatment for a tubed car at the time...
Hope some of the 'Pro-Street' folks come through for you with photos of their set-ups.

btw - I don't know if you happened to read my reply to DjD's notice about the "GoodGuys" show this weekend - but, the misses has roped me into taking her (she's not to good at long drives  bad history here... ) down to her 'girls weekend' outing in So.Cal on Sat~Sun.
I will be running over to the show on Friday now instead of the weekend - if you are free and can go we can meet-up for breakfast, lunch or :beers: if you like...

Take it easy;
John

Thanks John, I might have to run over to Pick-n-Pull and take a look at that. I still have to finicsh doing the sheetmetal on the floor, but the trunk is finished and part of the rear flooring. I have been going at it pretty hard the last couple of weeksI would like to have the floor, drive shaft tunnel, and tranny tunnel done by the middle of next week. I will get excited at that point. The steering column should be here any day (had to have a custom length).

I can't do Goodguys on Friday I have to help a friend of mine at the track. He is taking out his 530ci 1967 Camaro for the first time with the new engine. He asked me to come help him tune it. With the last engine it was a beast, can't wait to see how it runs now.

We will have to meet up another time. It doesn't have to be for a show, we can have breakfast/lunch anytime. I will go to Goodguys on Saturday and probably won't be there very long. I will inspect a few back seats and run through the swap meet.

Royce,

On my brother's mini-tubbed '67 he cut the springs out where the wheel housings had been extended so the seat would fit like stock. Once he had it mocked, he welded the springs back together for strength. Is there any chance you could do the same, the area over the tubs would be thin, but at least it would look right and the middle would still be padded.

Good luck!

- John

The back seat out of a Suzuki Samurai or a Dodge Durango would probably be just about right. They are both about 18" to 22" narrower than a standard rear seat.

John, That is exactly the type of info I was hoping for. That gave me a visual. I no longer have the back seat from my car. It would not fit at all now anyway. I installed a square tube frame, which meant cutting out the whole floor from the back of the trunk to the firewall (I even had to remove the firewall). Just to give you an idea of what I am working with.

Scott,
I will take a look at those it might be easier to modify one of them that it will to totally make my own from scratch.

The back seat out of a Suzuki Samurai...

 That's it! It was one of those. Thanks Scott for fillin' in the model.

Just thought it was funny I would even think about that at the time - I had/have no plans to 'tub' anything - that I know of...
We must be long lost brothers Royce :beers:
If you need me to keep my eye out for one in my trips let me know.

Best of luck with the friends Camaro - I know how nice it is to have support when setting-up a new combo
Sorry I won't get to see you this show.
But, you know plans change to suit the 'misses' needs ;) I'm sure she'll make it up to me... (maybe the 'wink' should have gone here? )

Breakfast or lunch sometime sounds great! I'm gonna need to take a run up to Summit for some parts and stop by the lake to put the boats away for the summer sometime in the next couple weeks - maybe we can hook-up then.

Trying to get the son's truck in primmer before the weekend so I better get back to work :waving:
